If you want the pub side rather than the dining room, the Talisman Bar runs in the same building with its own atmosphere and a large outdoor dining area. The Talisman also has hotel rooms, so dinner and bed can be the same address.
Three Indian kitchens on Main Road
Katikati has three Indian restaurants on Main Road, and for a town of 6,000 that is a lot of choice. Mehtab and Indian Grill share the 74 Main Road address, and Taste of Punjab is further up at number 38.
Mehtab is open for dinner seven days a week and has one of the strongest followings of any restaurant in town, with ratings in the high fours from a couple of hundred reviews on Restaurant Guru. Its menu runs from vegetable dishes like eggplant to the curries you would expect, and it does takeaway too.
Taste of Punjab, at 38 Main Road, cooks a Punjabi-leaning menu: lamb vindaloo, butter chicken and daal are the dishes it names itself. It is the one to try if you are staying at the northern end of town near the Arts Junction.
Indian Grill makes its dishes fresh and buys its meat from the local butcher, Katikati Meat Masters on Main Road, which is the kind of detail that tells you a small restaurant cares about the basics.
