Lake Geneva Wedding Venues (12 Within 15 Miles)

Twelve venues on Geneva Lake, Delavan Lake and Lake Como, from the Riviera on the shore to resorts with rooms for the whole guest list.

Start with the name, because it confuses everyone. Lake Geneva is the town; Geneva Lake is the lake, a spring-fed lake of about 5,262 acres with the towns of Lake Geneva, Williams Bay and Fontana on its shore. The wedding venues Lake Geneva is known for spread across that lake and two smaller neighbours, Delavan Lake to the west and Lake Como to the north, and which lake you choose changes the whole feel of the day.

This guide covers twelve venues within 15 miles of downtown Lake Geneva, grouped by lake and by type, with the capacity each venue publishes and the straight-line distance from town. Lake Geneva is about 41 miles from downtown Milwaukee and about 64 from downtown Chicago, which is why families from both cities end up here.

Which lake?

Geneva Lake is the famous one. The town of Lake Geneva sits at its east end, with the beach, the lakefront path, the shops on Main Street and the hotels all within walking distance of each other. It is busy in summer and feels like a resort town, because it is one.

Fontana, at the quiet west end of Geneva Lake about 8 miles from town, is smaller and calmer, with a marina and fewer crowds. Delavan Lake, about 8 to 11 miles west, has its own resorts and a more relaxed, cabins-and-boats feel. Lake Como, about 3 miles northwest of town, is the smallest of the three and the least developed.

If you want guests to walk everywhere, choose downtown Lake Geneva. If you want a weekend where everyone stays in one place, look at the resorts. If you want quiet, go to Fontana or Delavan.

On Geneva Lake, in town

The Riviera sits on Wrigley Drive in downtown Lake Geneva with water on three sides: big windows over Riviera Beach, ceilings over 20 feet, and a veranda above the cruise-line docks and charter boats. It holds up to about 300, and you choose your caterer from its preferred list.

It publishes its rates. From May to November, a Saturday costs $7,950; Fridays run $3,500 to $6,000, Sundays $2,750 to $5,500 and weekdays $1,425 to $2,400, with the lower figure for Lake Geneva residents. Winter rates drop, to $2,850 to $5,800 for a Saturday. The fee covers 8 hours of event time plus up to 7 hours of setup, tables, chairs and teardown, and there is a 15% military discount.

Horticultural Hall on Broad Street is an Arts & Crafts building designed by Spencer & Powers for the Lake Geneva Horticultural Society, and it is still largely intact. The ceremony can go in the beamed great hall on its parquet floor, or outside in a flower-filled courtyard open to the sky and enclosed by ivy-covered arcades on three sides. It holds up to about 160.

It is also the cheapest good room in town: rental runs $640 to $1,800 for a ceremony and reception with 12 hours of use, and you can bring your own food and drink. And it has a claim few venues can match: it was the original home of the early GenCon game conventions.

Fontana, the quiet west end

The Abbey Resort sits at the west end of Geneva Lake in Fontana, beside the marina. Ceremonies happen on the Harbor Lawn or the West Shore Pavilion, and receptions run up to about 400 guests in its indoor rooms, with hotel rooms and a spa for the weekend.

It also sells packages for micro weddings and elopements, which few resorts this size bother with. One tip from a photographer who works there: the resort faces east, so the sun sets behind the building, not over the water. The marina dock at golden hour is the shot.

Resorts with rooms for everyone

For a big wedding where you want the whole guest list under one roof, the two large resorts east and west of town are the answer.

Grand Geneva covers about 1,300 acres just east of town, about 2 miles from downtown. It opened in 1968 as a Playboy Club and was reworked as a family resort in the 1990s. Today it has golf, a spa, a main ballroom for 300 or more and rooms for 350-plus guests.

Its strength is scale: ceremony, cocktails, dinner and every guest's bed in one place, for a wedding of up to about 400. The setting is rolling green hills and a pond rather than the lakeshore.

Geneva National is a golf resort about 4 miles west of downtown, with three championship courses on high ground, a hotel, a spa and several dining rooms. The clubhouse takes about 200 to 300 for a reception, and ceremonies can go out on the course.

Spring and fall are its best seasons for photos, when the fairways and the trees around them change colour.

Delavan Lake

Lake Lawn Resort sits on the shore of Delavan Lake, about 9 miles west of Lake Geneva. Its lakefront ceremony site has a paved aisle under three trellises leading out to a platform by the water.

Receptions go in the Geneva Ballroom for up to 350 seated, the Lake Lawn Room for 225, or the Geneva Club room for 130, which also takes small ceremonies of up to 80. The Lakeview Terrace handles cocktails for up to 300. Milwaukee Magazine's 2026 venue data lists room rental at $2,500 to $4,500 and entrées at $38 to $65. Rooms are on site.

Also on Delavan Lake, Waters Edge sits on six acres of lakefront, with a renovated 4,700-square-foot hall, two bars and an upstairs lounge for sunset views. It has fewer reviews than the other venues here and they are mixed, so tour it and talk to recent couples before you book.

In downtown Delavan, about 11 miles from Lake Geneva, The Treasury is a historic building turned bright event space, with a main floor, a balcony level and the original bank vault. Reviewers call it good value for the quality, and it is women-owned.

Northwest of town on Lake Como, Lake Como Beach Club House is a simpler banquet hall with a kitchen, a bar and a playground outside, a practical choice for a relaxed, family-heavy wedding.

Farm and small-town options

LaRocque Farms near Walworth, about 9 miles west of Lake Geneva, is an outdoor wedding venue with a renovated barn, a sailcloth tent, wildflower prairie, gardens, ponds and a gazebo. The barn has a timber dance floor.

It is owner-run, and reviewers single out the owners for how much they handle on the day. Appointments are required to tour.

About 10 miles northeast in Burlington, Mercantile Hall is a downtown hall with exposed brick, industrial lighting and a patio, and event coordination included. Milwaukee Magazine lists its rental at $1,495 to $7,295. Its getting-ready rooms are a strong point, and parking is easy, with a free garage nearby.

For a very small wedding, Ye Olde Manor House is a bed and breakfast in Elkhorn, about 14 miles northwest, where a short guest list can stay and marry in one place.

Booking a Lake Geneva date

Lake Geneva books earlier than anywhere else in Wisconsin. A photographer who works the area puts peak dates at 14 to 18 months out, and the best months, September and early October, go first. June and July have the longest days.

Avoid Labor Day weekend unless you love traffic. It is the busiest weekend on Geneva Lake, and the roads into town back up.

Book guest rooms when you book the venue. In summer, rooms around the lake fill months ahead, and the resorts will hold a block for you if you ask early. For Chicago guests, a Friday or Sunday wedding avoids the worst of the Saturday traffic in both directions.

Costs and how to keep them down

Lake Geneva is not cheap, but the range is wider than its resort image suggests. At the top, a peak Saturday at The Riviera costs $7,950 for the room alone. At the bottom, Horticultural Hall rents for $640 to $1,800 and lets you bring your own food and drink, which can cut the catering bill sharply. The Treasury and Mercantile Hall are known for good value. A Friday, a Sunday or a date in May or late October costs less almost everywhere.

At the resorts, ask what the package includes and whether there is a minimum spend on food and drink for your date. At the halls, ask what you need to rent separately: tables, linens, a bar service, a tent.

Beyond Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva is one of six wedding regions across the state as a whole, and the one closest to Chicago.

About 31 miles east, the country clubs around Kenosha are simpler and closer to Chicago's northern suburbs.

About 41 miles northeast, the city venues of Milwaukee offer historic rooms and lakefront museums.

And if LaRocque's barn appeals, it is one of more than a dozen barns around the state.
