Having returned after being away for 27 years, I am very happy with my experience so far. Coleman Sensei and his higher level student teachers are all very patient and take the time to help correct your form and movements. They teach using traditional Japanese methods and etiquette, yet as a new (even though I did attend classes years ago) student I never felt like I didn't belong. Part of the experience is learning those nuances and of course they are happy to explain and help you understand both the what and the why. There are also videos available on YouTube that I would encourage anyone interested in checking out to see some examples of the things you can learn on your journey. I hope you will join!

As a 35+ year old adult who suffers from chronic pain along with having had many different surgeries, movement and working out do not come easy to me. I thought there was no way I could ever do something as physically demanding as martial arts. As most people with chronic pain know you have good and bad days, and Sensei Coleman took this all into count when helping me choose a starting point. He checks in constantly to make sure I'm not pushing myself beyond what my body can handle on that particular day. The students and assistant teachers are super friendly and all followed in his foot steps with check in while doing techniques, allowing breaks if I need it. This has been one of the most pleasant and rewarding experiences in getting to move my body. The changes to muslce strength, balance, and dexterity have been numerous. I started with chinese martial arts where I relearned basic body confidence and balance, then I picked up a weapons class and now with much improvement to my over mobility and strength I'm starting on my jujutsu journey and I can't be more excited. If you are instrested in martial arts, self defense or just moving your body in a different way then a regular gym can provide I would highly recommended Futen Dojo. If you have the self discipline you will succeed here.

Coleman Sensei is a very knowledgable, kind, and empathetic human being. Not only does he teach martial arts, he also teaches culture, etiquette, courage, and resilience. A truly wonderful shining light of wisdom, who can really teach you how to persevere through the storms that life has to throw at you. To stand firm, and simply be chill in the chaos. Great sensei, great dojo, great martial arts!
