Wellington holds an unusually wide mix inside a small footprint: Catholic and Anglican churches in the centre, mosques in Kilbirnie and the inner suburbs, a Hindu temple, and a progressive Jewish congregation.

Several of the best known interiors are ordinary parish churches during the week, so a quiet weekday visit is often the best time.

Getting there

Most are walkable from the centre or a short bus ride, and parking is easier on Sunday morning than any other time.
