Explore our replica Norwegian stave church on Washington Island

About

Washington Island Stavkirke is a church in Washington, Wisconsin, based on drawings of a 12th-century Norwegian stave church. Our team built the replica structure using local craftsmen and volunteers, beginning with the foundation in 1992. We feature a prayer path and a rock labyrinth for visitors to explore. Our church also offers a weekly service. Our property is open for touring year-round, allowing guests to experience its Norwegian design and detailed interiors.

Best place for fall trip, its on October 14th 2024. Recommended place during fall. Such a quite and peaceful place. The chruch was well maintained and beautiful. 🤩 Fall colors was in pick, this was so lovely. I missed fall colors in color in most of the places, but Wisconsin just made me happy🙃 For people who love fall colors, best time to visit this place is mid October, I promise you will love it. There was lavender farm near by which we did not visit since there were no lavenders during fall. But I recommend this place if you are looking for full bloom fall color.😊

We stopped to check out this historic viking church and it did not disappoint! Everything is really well maintained, there's a spiritual praying path and a rock labyrinth. The church, which is a reproduction, built sometime in the 1990s, was absolutely gorgeous. If you're visiting Washington Island, highly recommend to stop here and check it out

Absolutely beautiful inside and outside. I couldn't stop looking at the details of the church. It's tranquil and just feels special. I highly recommend.

Such a cool building. The flowers and prayer path was a beaitful touch around the church. Inside was so detailed and felt unreal. Definitely a must see!
