I stayed here for the weekend with my partner on a whim. They were the only hotel in the neighborhood that wasn't price gouging for the weekend because of a big event that was happening at the Brewer's stadium. They just offered the regular price, which is already considerably lower than anything else you'll find in the area. It was a nice surprise. The room was renovated creatively. The staff were friendly and approachable. The breakfast was great, it was a thoughtful selection of snacks and beverages and energy drinks. Along with hot sandwiches and coffee freshly delivered from Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts. Even if it weren't for the hot food, it was already better than I would expect for a hotel in this price range. Because of the neighborhood, they have some security measures that seem to have made other posters here feel uncomfortable. The front desk employees are behind a plexiglass window and you have to be buzzed into the lobby. And there is a steel gate that you need to pass to get into the courtyard where you access the room entrances. They close this at night and it must be open by hand if you arrive late. I actually found this to be one of the nicer features of the hotel that made it feel safe. And while the gated off courtyard area is mostly just a parking lot, you do get a private space that's nice to smoke a cigarette in at night among other things. They run a tight ship, so employees are usually pretty busy, but that's one of the reasons you get such a good deal here. I think the people who have the most complaints about this place might have a better time at chain hotel in the suburbs. But if you're looking for the best deal in this location and you appreciate small local establishments, this is it. Some parts of the building are a bit rough around the edges, but that's about what I would expect from a budget hotel in a historically old downtown neighborhood. They seem to be doing a great job of running the property economically, considering the location and how little they charge per night, it's a great deal. Don't let the bad reviews fool you. For a hotel in this price range and in this spectacular location, it's top notch. I maybe just had a lucky experience, but that tends to happen a lot if you're a chill person who appreciates unique family run establishments. This is one of my new favorite places to stay in Milwaukee.
