Mexican restaurant serving tacos and larger shared plates
Our waitress ignored us the whole time we were there. She took our order and we didn't see her again, it our food took over 30 minutes to be given to us and spent an additional 10 sitting under the heat lamp (bc our server had abandoned us). We only got our food after flagging down another server, who was really nice but had to pick up the slack from our original server. The food was alright, my tacos were a salty. They also gave us plastic forks and napkins which was weird.
1 star for my margarita and the salsa was okay. The queso was not traditional Queso blanco, we ended up sending it back. The chimichanga had a chicken that smelled and tasted like it came directly from a grocery store rotisserie chicken. There was also lettuce and rice in my chimichanga, which I found very odd. My daughter's quesadilla had the same rotisserie chicken and was very soggy. Her street corn came in a bowl, unseasoned and likely from a can. While I still tipped her well because I believe in making sure service workers are paid for their time, she had no patience for us. Which, I get, we didnt like anything she brought... which is fine. I did have to request that the queso be taken off, even though she took it from the table, and I requested one of the meals be taken off. I would have loved for all of it to be comped except for what we actually consumed, but it was not offered and honestly, I felt awkward. Super disappointed in this experience
Let me start with the fact that we LOVE kompali. It has been a staple for me and my partner for the past year. That being said we have never had as poor service as today. Our server grace said to sit wherever but each table was dirty . She started by giving us both dirty water cups. Food was delish as always but then upon asking for the bill she said there was a gratuity already included. I've never had that happen here and normally that would be fine but she did not come back over to us after dropping off the food until we had been done eating for 10 minutes. When we asked for the bill it took her another ten minutes to grab it to I politely asked her to run the card because we had been waiting, she then started cutting fruit first, she ran the card after that but then never gave it back to us. When we asked for the card back she said she left it on another counter and we 'can grab it if we want' mind you this was an employee area so I would have never known to go over and take the card . She just walked around talking to other customers and didn't address us again. Today it was not busy, we were the only table with about 5 customers at the bar.
These tacos are the best on Brady Street, and they are incredible and very flavorful. Kompali is a solid lunch spot and they deliver on stellar presentation and flavor. Amazing happy hour specials with well-priced drink specials, and Kompali is the perfect restaurant for individual tacos or larger shared plates.
I haven’t been here in a long long time. I have no idea why. The food and service are so good. First, they have the BEST salsa. It’s so thick and tasty. It is not runny at all. After I finished my meal, I ate the rest of the chips and salsa.OMG!!! For our meals, we had the El Guero taco, cauliflower taco and black beans which were all so good especially the cauliflower taco. We also had the burrito which was huge. The food was absolutely scrumptious. Our waitress was so sweet and attentive. Overall - we had a very good experience.
