Perfect intimate wedding venue on the Capital square in Madison! As a wedding photographer, I am incredibly selective about the venues I rave about. Ellsworth Block has earned every bit of this review. I've shot weddings all over the Madison area, and this venue consistently delivers some of the most stunning images of my career. The space is a photographer's dream. The exposed brick walls, classy textures, and architectural details provide a timeless backdrop that works beautifully in every lighting condition. The natural light throughout the venue is exceptional, hard & soft, flattering, and abundant. Which makes my job significantly easier and the results that much more striking, and wonderful variety. Whether we're shooting intimate portraits or wide reception shots, there is no shortage of compelling compositions. What also sets Ellsworth Block apart is its location just steps from the Wisconsin State Capitol. That proximity is a massive bonus for. I always take couples across the street for the interior and exterior. And if being one of the best photo stops in the state wasn’t enough, unlike so many other beautiful places, you don't need a permit which keeps things easy. From a logistical standpoint, the layout of the space flows from ceremony to cocktail hour to reception, which means I'm never scrambling to get ahead of the timeline. An all in one venue is my favorite. That kind of thoughtful design makes a real difference in the quality and consistency of coverage I can deliver for my clients. The only main con that I can think of comes with being in a historic building. There is no elevator. Which does make some things... tricky. I actively recommend Ellsworth Block to any couple who asks me for venue advice. It's the rare space that makes the job easier and the final product more beautiful. Truly one of Madison's finest.
