Asked the front desk people for an upstairs room, explaining I needed a good night’s sleep. They said none were available but put me in a room they guaranteed would be quiet. It’s 11:46, I was woken up when my upstairs neighbors came in feeling like the ceiling of my room was made of paper and that someone was going to fall in through the ceiling. I hear voices, every step someone makes above me and don’t foresee sleeping at all while they are still awake. Not sure I have ever stayed in a hotel less poorly constructed in my life. It also smells like a dingy basement. I agree the good reviews online must be fake- I would have just slept at home and woken up at 5 am and driven to my bike event vs staying here for a night if I’d known better.
I had a very bad experience. I booked a reservation for one night and was coming from out of town. The staff called me earlier to confirm my ETA and told me to call when I arrived. When I got there, I was stranded outside because no one answered the phone and I couldn’t reach anyone to check me in. I saw a maintenance worker taking out the garbage and explained the situation. He told me to wait a minute while he contacted the manager and said he would be back. I waited for over an hour and no one ever came to assist me. This was a huge inconvenience after a long drive. I had already paid in advance but was never able to check in for my stay. There were no nearby motels with vacancies, so I ended up having to sleep in my car. Very disappointing experience.
My wife and I recently spent five days vacationing in Old Saybrook. Not being a big fan of corporate hotels with their overpriced rooms and marginal service we opted to stay at the family owned/operated Pier Blue Inn. Check in was quick and easy. Because it was off season, the front desk manager gave us a free upgrade to a King Room which we found exceptional clean and comfortable. The Inn was located near all the places we had planned to visit along with many excellent restaurants. The attentive staff couldn't do enough to help make our visit more pleasurable. Well done Blue Pier! You've got a repeat customer on our next visit. Looking forward to seeing you all again. Thanks!
The front desk lady was very nice. She walked us to our room. After we got in, I realized that the floors had what looked like wax or something on them. They were not the type of floors to wax so they were very slippery. I have to use a cane to walk and was very worried. My husband got a towel and tried to wipe it up, but it was still slippery. I basically stayed in the bed all evening unless I had to go to the bathroom then he would help me to go. It had a pretty view out the back. Very loud noise next-door at night that would not stop so I called the front desk. He was very nice and said he would walk back to listen for where it was coming from. I did not hear back from him, but I believe he did try. The noise finally stopped around Midnight. Cute hotel on the outside and in a good location.
