About

Wisconsin River Headwaters Historical Wayside is a historical landmark in Land O' Lakes. Our wayside park features a large sign describing the Wisconsin River headwaters and a historical marker. The Wisconsin River begins its journey near our location, offering crystal clear water. We are located near the Michigan/Wisconsin border, just off US-45, and we are open 24 hours daily.

Large sign in wayside park just off the road, easy to find and get to. Sign is in good condition. River is at end of parking lot. There is another historical Marker just next to it. If you have the time, a couple miles to the east is another historical marker closer to the actual headwaters that's down a short path which is pretty neat. Interesting piece of local history.

Very near the start of the Wisconsin River whose length of over 300 miles to the Mississippi. Crystal clear water and flowers with bees and humming birds everywhere.

Very well kept, it's near the Michigan/Wisconsin border. It's just on the side of the road, but it's a great place to stop and stretch.

I find the Wisconsin River quite familial but know it moreso from the Southern part of the state. It was a happy accident stumbling upon its headwaters on my way down from the UP. Its was quiet and peaceful (and snowy - May 1st)!!
