Killer Authentic Tacos, but the Dining Room Needs a Deep Scrub I’ve been coming to this local Clearwater staple since I was 15 years old, and the food never misses. If you want authentic flavor, this is the spot. Their handmade tortillas are perfect, they have a massive variety, and the chicharron tacos are absolute perfection. We just ordered a massive spread—11 tacos, a burrito, a chicken tender plate, a wing plate, and a horchata. The total came out to $92. It’s definitely a bit pricey for a hole-in-the-wall joint, but honestly, the quality of the food makes it worth the money. Just a heads up on two things before you go: It is CASH ONLY. They do have an ATM inside, but the sign warning you about the cash policy isn't very noticeable until you're already sitting down. The building is very old and needs a serious deep cleaning. While the tabletops were clean, the walls are covered in dust and it looks like nobody has wiped down the actual structure of the restaurant in a long time. I will always come back here every single time I visit Clearwater because the food is just that good, but it’s definitely a take-out spot rather than a dine-in experience. Come for the food, grab it to go, and you won't be disappointed!

Mexican food has never been this good! The food is absolutely delicious, and I’m not exaggerating. The portions are generous, and the flavors are bursting with flavor. The service is a little bit sad they don’t speak English and they don’t seem very friendly. But I’m there for food it’s fine. Just honest feedback The only downside is that the restaurant is a bit noisy. There’s no music playing, and the TV is always on, playing Spanish language shows. But that’s just a minor inconvenience. Overall, I’m giving this place five stars. I’m going there every week just because of the food. It’s amazing!

These are hands-down, the best tacos in the Tampa Bay area Saint Pete Clearwater. The corn tortillas are made fresh in house. The meat is awesome coming from California. I need high-quality tacos. These are authentic Mexican tacos and taste amazing.

As a native Arizonan, it can be hard to find authentic mexican food away from border states. La Cabaña del Tio has great food. There are few things that people should be aware of: 1) is that they only accept cash. 2) they are quite expensive, about twice as much as a similar meal at a taco stand in Phoenix or San Diego. 3) it's a small restaurant with limited seating. Overall it's a good restaurant and I'll be back next time I'm in the area.

Some of the best places to eat homemade Mexican food are in little buildings with Univision blaring on the TV. Cash only. My barber told me about La Cabana Del Tio in Clearwater which sells some of the biggest and most tasty empanadas he's ever eaten. He said they are made from scratch using corn masa like his mom makes. This place is tiny and the parking lot is not made for trucks but I managed. I didn't know it was cash only so off I went to the bank to take out some cash. I was determined to try this place today. They have a line of proteins to choose from for the filling. I asked for chorizo and cheese. It took a good 10-15 min to get my food. Let me tell you, they smelled great on my way home. I wanted to pull over and eat them. When I opened up the tray they had placed a huge helping of sour cream, guacamole, and lettuce on the size. The three empanadas were thick and filled with meaty Mexican-style chorizo (ground up) which is what I wanted. They put a strip of fresh queso on the bottom of the fold. They were not greasy or messy, they were easy to cut in half and devour. I found a new place for some good MEX eats! Definitely a hole-in-the-wall restaurant simple restaurant. Those empanadas set the bar pretty high for me so I hope the rest of the menu keeps me coming back. I plan on trying the pozole next.
