Clearwater Coffee Shops From Southie to the Beach

Downtown cafes, a roaster upstairs on Mandalay Avenue, tiramisu lattes off US 19, French pastry, and the kava bars that pour until 2am.

The good coffee in this city is spread out, which is worth knowing before you burn half a morning looking for a flat white on the beach. Clearwater coffee shops come in three rough clusters: a handful of cafes around Cleveland Street downtown, a few counters near Pier 60, and a long string of strip-mall roasters and kava bars along Gulf to Bay Boulevard and US 19 that beach visitors tend to miss. Pick by the job, a beach-run latte, a laptop table or a late-night cup, and the choice gets easy.

Hours below come from each shop's Google profile and own website as of October 2026, and several close by 2pm, so check before you drive across the causeway. Distances are straight-line, so the real route runs longer. When coffee turns into lunch, the wider list of Clearwater restaurants worth a proper sit-down meal picks up where this leaves off.

Downtown and Cleveland Street

The pick in and around downtown is Southie Coffee Roasters, a family-owned shop on South Missouri Avenue about 1.8 miles south-southeast of the Capitol Theatre, because the coffee is consistent and the food is a real breakfast. It sits south of Cleveland Street rather than on it, so plan it as its own stop.

Southie opened in 2018 and runs 7am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 3pm on weekends, with seating inside and out.

Order the Southie Latte if you like sweet, which is coconut, vanilla and white chocolate, or the nitro cold brew, steeped 24 hours, if you don't.

A Tampa Bay 28 profile said the beans come from a local roaster rather than a machine out back, so read the name as a brand, not a promise.

The breakfast burritos are the best-selling food, there are gluten-free and vegan options, and dogs get a whipped-cream pup cup.

Reviewers keep coming back to the same two things. The plain black cold brew converts people who order it everywhere, and the loaded breakfast sandwich (the menu calls it the ultimate breakfast Sammy) is the plate to split. Beans are sold to take home and ship nationwide.

On the downtown blocks proper, Restoration Cafe at 38 N Fort Harrison Ave is the roomiest place to sit, by reviewers' accounts, a cafe six days a week that closes on Sundays to host services for Restoration Church. It opened in summer 2017, pours direct-trade coffee roasted by Hemisphere Coffee Roasters, and runs 7am to 7pm Monday to Thursday, to 9pm Friday, and 8am to 9pm Saturday. Reviewers mention plenty of tables, free Wi-Fi, low prices and home-baked scones, with the white chocolate cranberry one getting a 10 out of 10.

A few steps from the theater at 420 Cleveland St, NUBO is a newer Ukrainian bakery-cafe with an open kitchen, open 8am to 8pm every day, which makes it a downtown coffee that is still pouring after a matinee. Get the honey cake and a pistachio latte. Early reviewers found the service still finding its feet, and the online menu asks you to sign up before you can read it.

The Coffee Shop at 33 N Garden Ave is tucked under an office lobby about 0.1 miles east of Restoration, with a menu that runs past the usual to cortados, hojicha lattes and organic masala chai. It keeps short hours, 8am to 3pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on weekends. Be ready to wait: two separate reviewers reported 15 minutes for a single drink in a near-empty shop, while the strawberry matcha latte has real fans.

Restoration and NUBO sit within about 0.1 miles of each other, so a coffee here slots easily into an afternoon walking downtown Clearwater from the waterfront park up Cleveland Street.

On the beach

For Clearwater Beach coffee, go to Blessed Cup Beach Cafe, upstairs at 483 Mandalay Ave about 0.3 miles north-northeast of Pier 60, because it roasts its own beans, which it says no other shop on the beach does. It is on the second floor, so look up or you will walk right past it.

Blessed Cup bills itself as Clearwater Beach's only locally roasted coffee, roasted to a low-acid profile by a roaster named Chris with more than 35 years behind him.

It opens 8am (8:30 on Tuesdays) and closes at 2pm daily.

The specialty lattes are the draw, Banana Boat, Coconut Cream Pie and Blueberry Cheesecake among them, alongside Belgian Liège waffles and breakfast sandwiches.

There is free Wi-Fi and a balcony over the Mandalay Avenue shops.

Inside it reads more like a living room than a beach kiosk, with books, table games and plenty of cozy seating, plus faith-based merchandise on the shelves. It holds a 4.7 from close to 600 Google reviews.

About 0.1 miles away at 55 Baymont St, Caffeinated Bakery is the grab-and-go option, a small room with house-made vanilla and lavender syrups, big breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls that sell out. One couple grabbed one of the last two rolls at 10:30am on a Tuesday, and the phone rings with pre-orders, so call ahead or come early. Hours are short: 8am to noon Monday to Wednesday and 8am to 2pm Thursday to Sunday, and dogs are welcome.

South of the pier at 332 S Gulfview Blvd, Barefoot Beach House is a gift shop with a coffee and ice cream counter, open 8am to 9pm daily, about 0.3 miles south-southwest of Pier 60. It is convenience coffee: a frozen coffee on the sand is the move, and reviewers warn about beachfront pricing, including $1.50 for a cup of ice, so check your receipt.

Coffee in hand on Mandalay Avenue, you are already on the right street for a slow morning on Clearwater Beach north of the roundabout.

If the plan is eggs and a table instead of a cup to go, a proper sit-down beach breakfast before the crowds is the better use of the morning.

East Clearwater and Countryside

Out east, Yummies Coffee at 1928 Gulf to Bay Blvd is the one to cross town for, a small local shop about 2.7 miles east of the Capitol Theatre with a perfect 5.0 from more than 200 Google reviews. It uses organic Arabica beans, reviewers say the roasting is done in house, and the shaken bom bom latte is the order. It closes early, 7am to 2pm on weekdays and 8am to 1pm on Saturday, and stays shut on Sunday.

Up US 19 about 1.3 miles north of Countryside Mall, Bonsai Beverage Co. is a small-batch roaster with a patio, open 7am to 5pm daily. The tiramisu latte comes with lady fingers for dipping, and one parent noted free kids' drinks with a purchase on Saturdays.

About 1.4 miles east of the mall at 2475 McMullen Booth Rd, Lalas Brews & Boba is a family-run boba and coffee counter where regulars swear by the Vietnamese coffee. It is closed Wednesdays and otherwise opens 10am to 7pm, 11am to 5pm on Sunday.

Far down US 19 at 18421 US Hwy 19 N, Kafe Tirona is an Albanian-style cafe about 4.7 miles east-southeast of downtown, with Turkish coffee listed at $1 a single and beer and wine behind the counter. Reviews split hard: some call it the best cappuccino in town, while others felt like outsiders and noticed a cigarette smell. Google lists it open 7am to 10pm daily but the cafe's own site says 9am to 5pm, so call before a late visit.

Kava bars

If you want a cafe that stays open past midnight, The Muddy Root Kava Cafe at 2045 Gulf to Bay Blvd is the pick, pouring locally roasted coffee and kava from 7am to 2am every day. A kava bar is an alcohol-free bar built around kava, a drink made from the ground root of a South Pacific plant in the pepper family, mixed with water and strained. The federal health agency NCCIH notes that kava products have been linked to rare cases of liver injury, so go easy and skip it if you drink alcohol the same night.

The Muddy Root sits about 0.3 miles east of Yummies, and it doubles as a daytime work spot with free Wi-Fi, comfy furniture and a crowd that brings its dogs. One longtime regular complained of a no-outside-food rule and price hikes under the current owner, so expect pastries rather than a meal.

Up north at 28778 US 19 N, about 0.2 miles from Bonsai, Kava Culture Clearwater is the party version: a big horseshoe bar, a pool table, an outdoor bar, a stage and a DJ booth, open until 2am daily. It opened in October 2021 and also serves kanna and CBD drinks. Musicians, take note: one reviewer said the open mic night plays more like karaoke.

Back south on US 19, about 0.3 miles from Kafe Tirona, N7 Nitro Kava Bar is the quieter one, pouring kava, coffee and kratom tea from 7am on weekdays and 9am on weekends, until 10pm Sunday to Wednesday and midnight Thursday to Saturday. Kratom is a different botanical from kava, so ask the bartender what you are ordering. One reviewer uses it for deep-focus work on a laptop.

Bakeries that pour coffee

When the coffee is an excuse for pastry, Chez David at 1469 S Belcher Rd is the pick, a French bakery-bistro about 3.7 miles east-southeast of downtown with a 4.7 from more than 1,100 Google reviews. It opens 7am to 2pm Tuesday to Sunday, adds Saturday dinner from 5pm to 8pm, and closes Mondays. Reviewers rave about the goat cheese and mushroom quiche, the thin fries and the pastries, and one says Saturday dinner comes with a free appetizer from the kitchen.

Wildflower Cafe at 1465 S Fort Harrison Ave, about 1.5 miles south of downtown and 0.7 miles west of Southie, is a sit-down brunch room more than a coffee stop, with a market next door that runs a bakery case for takeaway sweets. The cafe runs 8am to 2:30pm Monday to Saturday and 8:30am to 2pm Sunday, and the market 9am to 3pm daily. Order the buttermilk biscuit with honey butter and the house strawberry jam.

Closer to town at 1971 Drew St, Manos Bakery Cafe bakes Greek koulouria and French croissants and does a good caramel frappe, open 7am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday and 8am to 4pm Saturday. It sits about 0.5 miles north of Yummies, and the gyros at lunch can take 15 minutes when it is busy.

In the same plaza as Lalas, Jerome's Cafe & Bakery is a French cafe open 7:30am to 2pm Monday to Saturday, with breakfast croissants, crepes and gluten-free options. The veggie sandwich on ciabatta wins converts, and one reviewer found the almond croissant a day old, so ask what came out of the oven that morning.

Clearwater coffee shops for laptops and late nights

For a work session, Restoration downtown, Blessed Cup on the beach and The Muddy Root out east are the three with Wi-Fi and seating that suit a laptop. Southie has the room but closes at 3pm, and Caffeinated Bakery is too small to camp in.

After dark the list shrinks fast. De Facto Cafe at 1401 Gulf to Bay Blvd pours Pascucci espresso in the morning and reopens 6pm to 11pm Monday to Saturday as a Mediterranean wine bar, about 1.3 miles east of the Capitol Theatre. Farther out at 2663 Gulf to Bay Blvd, Milkster Creamery + Coffee serves lattes and boba next to its liquid-nitrogen ice cream until 9pm, 10pm on Friday and Saturday.

Past that, it is the kava bars: N7 until midnight late in the week, and The Muddy Root and Kava Culture until 2am. On the beach, the Barefoot Beach House counter is the late option at 9pm, and that is about it.
