Maxwelton Braes Lodge is a hotel in Baileys Harbor. We offer traditional lodging on a golf course, along with a seasonal restaurant and a function room.
From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the charm of this beautiful old golf lodge. The historic character has been preserved while the interior design is absolutely stunning, thoughtfully curated with elegant touches that make every space feel warm, inviting, and luxurious. Our room was quaint, cozy, and incredibly comfortable, making it the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring Door County. Every detail, from the décor to the atmosphere, created a sense of timeless charm. If you're looking for a unique stay that combines history, style, and comfort, this lodge is an absolute gem. We can't wait to return!

We had our wedding here and we could write a book about how wonderful the location, staff, owners, and process was. Katie, the event coordinator for the property is the sweetest, most thoughtful person who thought of every detail and made the day go smoothly. She worked directly with our vendors to cut down on the number of things we had to do and made really helpful suggestions about the timeline and process. Adam is a fantastic chef and our guests were raving about the food all day. He accommodated vegetarians, vegans, gluten free guests, and dairy intolerant guests all at the same time and it was all wonderful. Barb reached out to us and made sure we were doing well throughout the process and made sure we were able to locate vendors we might need. All the staff was very accommodating for our different guest needs and checked in several times before, during, and after the day to make sure we were happy with everything. Of course, we were overjoyed! The property is beautifully maintained and because we had the property to ourselves for the whole day and we could bring setup items beforehand, we were able to relax on the day of our wedding and get more quality time with our family and friends. They have maintained all the vintage charm of the property while incorporating modern convenience and the rooms are all unique and beautifully decorated. The grounds are perfect for photos that will last a lifetime. After the wedding, some of our guests stayed to spend time on the porch and enjoy the gas fire pit in the beautiful rocking chairs on the patio. It was comfortable without losing sophistication and the whole place invites people to come, sit, stay a while. If you are looking for a place for your wedding-or any event-and want to avoid stress, and feel like you are getting a place all your own, this is your spot. -Love, the Hollys

Maxwelton Braes has the kind of patina you can’t fake — from its near-century-old foundation to its newer amenities, this historic place is iconic yet refreshing. The room was charming, well-kept, and very comfortable, and the lobby had an endearing atmosphere that we genuinely looked forward to returning to each evening to chat with the staff or play games with strangers-turned-friends. What really made the stay uniquely pleasant, however, was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was so kind, welcoming, and accommodating. Each interaction felt personable and inviting, eager to offer any amount of assistance, guidance, or light-hearted banter to us. And having Gatsby's bar and restaurant right through the lobby is the cherry on top of an already-impeccable stay. Overall, I'd recommend the Maxwelton Braes Lodge to anyone looking for a convenient, cozy, and quiet place to stay while exploring the coastal beauty of the Door County Peninsula.
