We had a stunning lunch at Tokara and were lucky enough to get a table despite not having a reservation. It was a moody, overcast day and with the fireplace going inside, it made for the perfect setting for a late lunch and a few glasses of wine.
The vineyard grounds are absolutely beautiful and there were wild peacocks wandering around which added to the atmosphere. The restaurant interior itself was gorgeous too - elegant and warm without feeling pretentious.
The food didn’t disappoint. The chicken liver pâté was divine and the pizzas were huge - we ended up taking leftovers home with us.
The wine pricing still felt very close to cellar door pricing, even when ordering in the restaurant, which was a pleasant surprise.
Great atmosphere, beautiful setting and genuinely delicious food and wine. Would absolutely recommend.

Visited Tokara for the Rare Plant Fair and garden opening. Despite the cold, wet weather, the gardens were absolutely beautiful — rich autumn colours, misty views, and a really peaceful atmosphere if you slowed down and took it in.
It was very busy though, with queues at both entry and food areas, which made it difficult to fully explore. The event itself is clearly popular and well-supported.
Lunch was disappointing — the burger was undercooked and had to be left, which was not ideal given the conditions and crowds.
That said, we still enjoyed being there, picked up a few lovely plants, and appreciated the opportunity to experience the gardens, even briefly.
Overall: beautiful setting, worth visiting — but go early and be prepared for crowds on open days.

We had such a lovely experience at Tokara in Stellenbosch. From the moment we arrived, the estate itself was absolutely beautiful, with the most stunning views and a really calm, welcoming atmosphere.
Our wine tasting was a highlight. Emile was fantastic, so warm, knowledgeable and genuinely passionate about what he does. Even though it was a busy day, he made the experience feel really personal and took the time to share great insights about the wines, which made it all the more enjoyable.
The wines themselves were excellent, great quality and reasonably priced, with a well-curated tasting selection that we really enjoyed.
We also stayed for lunch at the deli, which was delicious and perfectly complemented the whole experience.
Overall, a really memorable visit. Beautiful setting, great wine, and exceptional service. Would definitely recommend Tokara to anyone visiting Stellenbosch.

What a treat. The kids play park is beautiful designed. Everywhere is art work waiting to be discovered. Some nice peaces can be yours for a price. The wine tasting area is having a wonderful setting and nice view. The tasting presentation is professional and the wine is lovely. We did also the olive oil tasting and that was ok. There is room for improvement. However the cheese player was nice and we loved the fresh bread and cracker.
