Blix Tavern is a bar in Stellenbosch, creating places inspired by the spirit of Africa. We offer cocktails, craft beer, and "Mystery Whiskey of the month." We also serve Wagyu bits and cigars, aiming to capture the adventure, elegance, and bold flavor of Africa in every sip, puff, and bite. We are a coffee shop by morning and a refined cigar and cocktail bar by night.
Excellent cocktails and a solid selection of craft beers. The beef snacks are genuinely good — bold flavours and generous portions. Service is attentive during quieter hours, but expect slower service when it’s packed. Go off-peak for the best experience. 🍸

This place is absolutely packed with atmosphere.
Me and my wife tried the Mystery Whiskey of the month, along with a Cigar and Wague Bits.
Nothing beats the warm, Jazz-Bar atmosphere in here.
Could sit for hours at the bar watching the friendly and educated bartenders mix cocktales in their tuxedos.
If you're in Stellies, Blix is a must.

Orderd a Moscow Mule and the Wagyu Beef. Waited for 30 mins to get the Drinks. Didn't ever get the Beef. Orderd Espresso Martini after the Moscow Mule like everyone else at my table. Got that quicker this time but waiter spilled Espresso Martini on my shorts. He tried to clean them which worked like 50%.

This was, without exaggeration, one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve had in a long time.
Two bartenders expected to service an entire restaurant and handle all drink orders! We waited an absurd amount of time just to place an order, and by the time someone finally acknowledged us, the evening already felt like a lost cause.
It only got worse. We ordered an espresso martini, only to be told, quite bluntly, that they don’t make them and were “out”. Five minutes later, one of those very same bartenders was happily making espresso martinis for another table. Either the staff are completely disorganised, or customers are being selectively lied to. Neither is acceptable.
The service was painfully slow, disjointed, and completely lacking in any sense of urgency or care. To top it off, there wasn’t a manager in sight to take responsibility or address the situation. It felt like a ship drifting without a captain.
For a place that clearly wants to position itself as a proper tavern experience, the basics are simply not being met. Poor service, inconsistent communication, and zero oversight made this an absolute disappointment.
I won’t be back.

I recently visited the Blix Tavern bar in Stellenbosch after reading an article about how they are the smallest bar currently in Stellenbosch. They have an outside seating area looking out on the sidewalk and the busy Dorp street, as well as an inside seating area for days when the weather isn't that great. This quaint little bar has everything from their own craft beers (Lager, Weiss, IPA) to cocktails and whiskies. They even had some cigars if you are so inclined. We grabbed a couple of drinks, but could see this bar is aimed towards the more mature markets, as the prices are a bit higher than the average student can afford. Overall, we enjoyed the experience, but would recommend that the staff looked a bit "happier" to work there and to also be a bit more attentive.
