Morgenster Estate is a winery in Somerset West known for its Bordeaux-style red wines and extensive olive groves. We cultivate varietals like Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot.
Our estate produces award-winning extra virgin olive oils from Italian varietals, along with balsamic vinegars and table olives. Visitors can enjoy guided tours and tasting experiences.
We offer wine tastings and dedicated olive oil tasting experiences in our modern tasting room. Our olive oil tastings can be paired with balsamic reductions and artisanal platters.
Visited their Tasting Room because we wanted to try out their Italian-style platter and we were stunned! I’m a HUGE advocate for their wines (the entire range by the way), all are EXCEPTIONAL! The Tasting Room experience was amazing, it was a cold day and they had the fireplace area ready which I loved! A 10/10 experience if you ask me - wouldn’t leave without buying a bottle (trust me).

The service was exceptional, the food on the other hand was nothing to write home about. The Steak? Bland, the sauce? Kept having to add salt. The only nice thing about the entire experience was their range of olive oils.

Spectacular views, great wine and a magical experience tasting olive oil. Highly recommended for everyone's bucketlist. Seating on the verandah with a view like that on a Sunday afternoon is perfect. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable.

Morgenster Wine Estate is a renowned boutique winery and olive oil producer located in Somerset West, Western Cape, South Africa, at the foot of the majestic Helderberg Mountains. With a rich history dating back to 1711, the estate was originally purchased by French Huguenot settler Jacques Malan and named Morgenster, forming part of the historic Vergelegen farm. In 1992, Italian entrepreneur Giulio Bertrand acquired the property, transforming it into a premier destination that blends Italian and French winemaking traditions with South African terroir.
Famous for its Bordeaux-style red wines, Morgenster primarily cultivates Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Its flagship wine, the Morgenster Estate Reserve, consistently earns international acclaim for its rich fruit aromas, elegant tannins, and exceptional ageing potential. Drawing inspiration from Italy’s Piedmont region, the estate also features extensive olive groves with Italian varietals, producing award-winning extra virgin olive oils renowned for their delicate, multi-layered flavours of fresh grass, artichoke, and nuts. These oils, along with balsamic vinegars and table olives, have garnered global recognition.
Visitors can enjoy guided tours, wine tastings, and dedicated olive oil tasting experiences in a modern tasting room overlooking vineyards and olive trees. The olive oil tasting, often paired with balsamic reductions and artisanal platters, offers an educational and sensory journey into premium oil quality. Committed to sustainability and artisanal craftsmanship, the Bertrand family has positioned Morgenster as one of South Africa’s finest boutique estates, attracting wine and food enthusiasts worldwide to this picturesque Cape Winelands gem.
