About

Hamilton Russell Vineyards is a winery in Hermanus. We are one of Africa's most southerly wine estates, pioneering viticulture in the cool, maritime Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, specializing in Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We also offer Ashbourne Wines, olive oil, and honey. Our team provides an introduction to the estate's history and wine styles in our tasting room. We guide visitors through the unique aspects of each wine. We are open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

The lady in the tasting room was very welcoming. She gave us a clear introduction to the estate’s history and the style of each wine. Before we made any decisions, she was very generous in letting us try the wines we were interested in, and patiently walked us through what makes each one unique. It was a really pleasant and comfortable visit.

Very nice and small wine farm in Hemel en Aarde valley. The wine expert was very knowledgeable and nice, she told us many stories about the family and the history of the wines. We tasted 3 wines for R100, very unique and nice wines with amazing views. I advise to take cash just in case, as when we went there their card machines were not working, which was a pity because we didn’t have enough cash to buy bottles.

Wine tasting is R100 for 3 wines. First one was Ashbourne Sandstone which was a white blend, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Semilion. Then they served the Estate Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir, both of which had a mix of first to fourth fill barrel. The wines didn’t delight as much as we would have liked but very well prepared staff! And gorgeous scenery!

The first winery in the Hemel en Aarde. One to definitely visit when in the area. Excellent wines, very knowledgeable staff, beautiful quaint tasting room, and stunning views. I was also lucky to have a tour of the cellar, always interesting to see all the barrels
