We had a really good time at Hey Joe. Hubby and Me had beer tasting and tried the Mussles. It was delicious so so good. Also loved the beer tasting. Beautiful place to sit and relax with a beautiful view. We'll be going back soon.

What a gem! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was spot on – fantastic service, crisp lager that hits the spot, and burgers that deserve their own fan club. The décor is a feast for the eyes too, with shiny brewery equipment doubling as part of the setting.
Now let’s talk about that brie and fig burger… WOW. Sweet, creamy, cheesy perfection – I want more! If you’re looking for a spot that nails both flavour and atmosphere, Hey Joe Brewery is the place. We’ll 100% be back for round two (and three… and four). Highly, highly recommend!

Under new management explains a lot…
Good luck to you Hey Joe.
Good luck to those who go here expecting it to be as good as it was.
And I hope whoever goes here as a first timer, has a better experience than ours was.
Celebrating a new chapter in my life, myself and a few friends decided to visit a few of my all time favourite places in Franschoek for a day out.
After a great wine tasting, we were so excited to end off for a good lunch at Hey Joe.
Once we arrived, we saw a whole new car park and hotel built, looked very polished up and was excited to see what else had changed.
Walked through to the restaurant and waited to be seated, Staff seemed uninterested to help, walking past us multiple times without any acknowledgement that we even existed.
To paint a picture for you, there was only one other table being seated as we arrived and no other tables around. So you can’t say it was busy.
Once we were finally seated, we had to ask twice for menus, Aparently they’re still printing them and only had 5 available..
Much do my Disappointment… The new menu is misleading and missing items that they do in fact serve. It’s also nowhere near as good of a selection as they used to have. It lacks more variety than a wimpy menu.
Never-mind the small home loan you need to take out to eat here now.
I always valued this place for quality and value.
But sadly I don’t believe this will be their future.
Half of the items we wanted to order were seasonal with no indication on the menus stating this. There was however a note with a symbol to show which options were vegan, on the drinks menu, yet nothing was actually indicated as being vegan or not. So I don’t understand what the point was of that. And if they went through the time and effort to do that.. why not add a note indicating what is seasonal so people don’t need to change their order 5 times whilst the waiter figures out what is and isn’t in stock…
After ordering our “in season” drinks, the Milkshake had more colour than flavour, the white wine was warmer than the winters day, and the glasses had to be sent back twice because they were dirty.
At least the canned iced tea was not expired.
Finally the food arrived after an hour.
Sadly the steak that was ordered to be rare, was medium and so cold, that eventually got sent back. It also lacked flavour and the chips on everyone’s plates seemed underdone. Everything else was thankfully ok but definitely lacked the great presentation and flavour they used to have.
When the steak finally arrived back after 15 minutes, the fries were still more underdone than the steak.
I did have a chat with the hostess and manager. Thankfully they were very understanding and explained the whole situation to me, apparently the new management doesn’t know what they’re doing it seems.
This place used to be packed, serving incredible food at great prices with such an amazing menu. They said they had complaints but I find that hard to believe since they had the same menu for nearly 4 years and everyone always raved about how good this was.
We used to take friends and family from all over the world here. But I don’t think I’ll waste my time or money here again.
I really do hope the new management can turn this place around to be as good as it used to be. It’s sad to see such a great venue fall into neglect and bad management
Sadly… the cherry top, we noticed after further inspection, how irritated and itchy our skin was, full of these red sore prick marks. Seems we all left with splinters from the chairs which we sat in, they have aged and become brittle from the sun.
As much as I want to come back and see the improvements, I think with the new management this place has sadly fallen way too far to consider this as an option to consider in Franschoek.

Absolutely loved it! We had a fantastic time! The beers are great, the food is awesome, from presentation to taste (except, perhaps, the desserts that were pretty average). The waiters were very friendly and welcoming. The decor and design are just too beautiful!
So, when in Franschhoek next time, make sure you skip one of the wine farms that was on your list and try "Hey Joe Brewing Company"! You won't regret it!
