Cellar tours, wine tastings, restaurants, and historical museums
A trip to Groot Constantia on a beautiful day is such a soulful outing. The scenery is beautiful and the animals aren't shy to say hello as you wander around. The wine was really good but the chocolates in the pairing just takes it to another level. Definitely do the wine and chocolate pairing. The bathrooms are really clean and neat 👌🏻 will definitely be back to try the restaurants
Groot Constantia is an absolute gem. The scenery alone is breathtaking, rolling vineyards, mountain backdrops, and such a peaceful, timeless setting that makes you want to just sit and take it all in. The food was just as impressive. Full of flavour and beautifully put together. You can really tell care goes into what they serve. What truly made the experience stand out though was the staff. The service was exceptional, and our waiter in particular. Definitely a place worth experiencing.
No wine-tasting but grabbed some breakfast at Jonkershuis restaurant. Told we should have booked for outdoor seating, but didn't mind the indoor covered area we were shown. Service was fairly slow but we were in no hurry. Based on price (fairly costly) we both expected more, but breakfast was adequate. Super farm to explore and enjoy, nice walk alongside the vineyards. Parking is challenging. We had to park at the wine-tasting/shop venue and walk up to the restaurant and museum area. Not that difficult, but a consideration if you have physical limitations.
The oldest wine estate in South Africa. Heritage, beauty and culture all embroidaled into this fantastic property. Would recommend their winery tour along with wine tasting experience. There are a couple of superb onsite restaurants as well which have excellent food and service!
Groot Constantia have recently renovated their tasting room. It is a lot more modern and welcoming. This is a great winery stop if you are doing the Cape Town City Sightseeing red bus. Flagship wines to try would be their Sauvignon Blanc for whites and their Gouverneurs Reserve for reds. They conduct hourly cellar tours so enquire upfront. I personally love sitting outside but the inside is lovely too on a rainy or windy day.
