What a restaurant — just wow. Beau Constantia is an incredible dining experience, combining an amazing dinner with outstanding service and breathtaking views over the Constantia Valley. The restaurant’s own wines are an excellent match for the food and make the experience even more special. A truly memorable evening and an absolute must-visit in Cape Town.

I visited in July 2026 and dined alone. I was particularly interested in trying a wide spread of what the kitchen had to offer, and so I had the pleasure of experiencing the tasting menu with paired wine. What I write below is less of a formal review and more a heartfelt account. The view alone at Beau Constantia is worth visiting to see for yourself. The set menu was R1,200 per person and R800 for the wine pairing. Nearly every course came with two options, which I appreciated. Oysters came first, West Coast Saldanha Bay, dressed simply in lime and chilli, each one sitting in its half shell on a bed of coarse sea salt held together with egg white so the whole thing stayed upright and steady. The bread course had a guava butter with it, soft and faintly pink, which I wasn't expecting and really liked. Linefish sashimi followed, thin, glassy slices fanned across the plate and dressed with spiced coconut and turmeric, and the fish was so fresh that with all the aromatics it almost tasted buttery, which isn't a word I usually reach for with raw fish. It came with the Groote Post Seasalter, smooth at the start, salty on the finish, drying out a little after pairing with food. Then the beetroot tart, a small dark disc of pastry topped with capers and a smear of baba ganoush, probably my favourite savoury course of the night. The capers cut right through the earthy beetroot, and the pastry gave it the fat it needed to feel complete rather than worthy. Beetroot is so often the safe, slightly forgettable choice on a tasting menu, and here it was the whole point. It came with the a 2025 Remhoogte Honeybunch Chenin and it oddered honeyed, soft, sweet taste with a slightly salty finish. Then the risotto. Pumpkin, sherry, and salted brown butter, the rice loose and glossy, with a pumpkin sherry mousse folded through it that seemed to melt into the grains rather than sit on top. I loved this course properly, so soft and buttery it barely needed the rest of the meal to justify itself. The Catherine Marshall Riesling alongside was lime forward, and cut through all that richness nicely rather than getting lost in it. Springbok venison loin came next, chargrilled with a good dark crust and a rosy, almost translucent centre, somehow tender enough to melt. Beau Constantia's own Lucca red beside it was a bit dry and barely changed from the first sip to the last, but in a good way, like it already knew exactly what it was. Dessert was a cherry and rose geranium mousse with coconut and raspberry, plated as small scattered domes and gel dots rather than one neat composition. I loved the variety of isolated components; pairing different pieces made it feel like I was in a playground of tastes and textures, which I thoroughly enjoyed. And then the wine with it: Klein Constantia's Vin de Constance, a deep gold in the glass, a late harvest rather than a fortified wine (2016, apparently, is the vintage worth chasing), floral and honeyed on the nose and essentially unchanged from first sip to last, right through to the very last mouthful. Liquid gold. I'm not really exaggerating with that one. The service throughout was warm and unhurried, happy to talk through the wine choices at each course rather than just pouring and moving on, which made the pairing decisions feel like part of the experience rather than an upsell. Between the view, the risotto, and that last glass of Vin de Constance, I'd go back for any one of those three things alone, and the wine pairing throughout made a strong case for itself on almost every course. I had a wonderful time and this was a highlight of my time in Capetown.

Honestly, Beau Constantia is a wonderful place to visit in the Constantia Valley. The wines were exceptional, friendly service and the food was amazing. It was the best experience we had in South Africa.

This was something different to the other places I went for wine 🍷 tasting. And I dont do wine tasting, I am the driver. I go with for the view, beauty, company, culture and the true color of people when they have enjoyed some wine 🍷 😉. But this in the Southern suburbs was my first and it was stunning, it can't be put it words, its something you have to go and see for yourself. That is all I am saying, go and enjoy. The service could have been better, waiting time was long that's why not a 5 star. But they are friendly and helpful.

We went to the restaurant for dinner last night and beside great food we also got great service and enjoyed a wonderful experience of fine dining Cape Town style. It was a fabulous evening. The food was exceptional the staff were very personable and natural with a sense of humour and the knowledge to educate you on what dishes you are having with a beaming smile. It wasn’t fussy it wasn’t starchy it was just fun to watch and enjoy.
