The 1 star is for the service staff and the kitchen staff which were the only positive part of our experience here. I booked a table for 18 people to celebrate my partners 28th birthday. When booking on the phone I was told by the owner that there would be some chilled rock bands and that we would be given a nice table allocation. I specifically asked for a table where we could still talk to each other. Upon arriving, the entire space was decorated for Danielle’s 70th birthday, and the music was so loud we could not hear our own thoughts let alone what each other were saying (this is coming from a group of people who regularly go to trance and drum n bass parties so we are used to loud music), anyway we ordered food and drinks which came in a timely manner. Much to our surprise there were then speeches, and the owner then came up to our table and told us to be quiet while there were speeches for the 70th that was taking up the whole venue. I found this to be incredibly rude and unprofessional. Maybe if the music wasn’t so loud for the space, we would have been talking at a more normal volume. I would have appreciated being told that the venue was being used for a 70th upon booking so that we could go somewhere else. I have never been told to be quiet by the owner of a bar or restaurant because of speeches - they should have rented out the space for a private event. We ended up leaving early to find somewhere more pleasant. This could have been avoided with some simple communication. I would like to mention that I did try to email privately and address this but did not get a response, so have decided to leave a review. It’s a pity because it’s a nice space and the staff is nice, but the owner seems to be in his own world. Suffice to say we won’t be returning. We couldn’t even sing happy birthday.
