Tucked away in a hidden valley of the Langeberg Mountains behind Ashton lies the gem of Kleinhoekkloof wines. The owner, Theunis de Jongh, is most welcoming and the visit by appointment only, since the wines are presented with a beautiful platter of charcuterie, the artisinal craft of curing meat. Theunis is skilled and knows his craft and the spread of different types are amazing. I loved the story of how the meat is sourced from a local pig farmer, sustainably sourced. The wines also have a story attached. I love supporting a small cellar where everything is handmade and produced with love. You reach the Cellar with a small winding two-track gravel road towards the end. We tucked into the platters served with fresh ciabatta, home-made green figs, olives, quince jelly an apricot chutney - so delicious, I forgot to take photographs!
