Nara is a restaurant in Martinborough focusing on fresh, locally produced ingredients. We craft everything on our menu from scratch, ensuring we know exactly what goes into our food. Our offerings are strongly influenced by Middle Eastern cuisine, and we also feature items like our Jalapeno Cornbread Waffles. We are open for brunch and lunch six days a week, serving world-class coffee and a curated beverage list. We're a little bit fanatical about fried chicken and support local producers.
We had a great brunch at Nara this morning. The service was warm, friendly, and attentive, and both the drinks and food arrived promptly.
The coffee was good, although not quite my personal favorite.
The food, however, was excellent—fresh ingredients, great quality, and beautifully prepared. We’re lucky to have a café like Nara in Martinborough.

This might be the best breakfast I've ever had! We visited New Zealand in December 2025, and so this review is about 4 months late. I had booked us a brunch reservation for the day that we were leaving Martinborough. The service and ambiance at Nara were both fantastic, and the kitchen really knocked it out of the park when it came to the food. The Jalapeno Cornbread Waffles were amazing--the flavors all worked so well with each other, and the serving size was just right. My partner ordered the Eggs Your Way, if I recall correctly, and again all of the flavors were perfectly balanced. Drinks and coffee were great, too, but the food really was next level. My pictures probably don't even do it justice. If we ever happen to visit Martinborough again, we will be sure to enjoy another meal at Nara without a doubt. If you're in the area, you must try them!!

Amazing amazing breakfast. Very quick service. The coffee was perfect! Love this little cafe! The rosti with poached eggs was absolutely delicious. I added halloumi to this. Please pay this place visit. It's superb 😍😋

We had a lovely brunch at Nara this morning. The service was friendly and polite, and the drinks and food arrived quickly. Being a Tuesday morning it wasn't top busy so easy to find a table for 4.
The coffee was very nice although it wasn't quite as hot as I like.
The food was really good, nice quality ingredients. The portions weren't large but a nice size for a light brunch. Everything was very tasty and well prepared, runny yokes on the poached eggs etc.
Definitely worth a visit if you are after a tasty, light brunch/lunch. Just ask for extra hot coffee if you like it on the hot side. 😉👍

Consistently good every visit for several years, I especially enjoy the Belgian Waffle because it has a tender buttery base with lightly spiced poached pear, crème fresh and slivered almonds that balance and perfect each bite. The blueberry muffin is also great with just the right amount of sweetness and a touch of crunch on the muffin top. Attentive staff anticipate needs and get on with their work admirably. Everything is clean and comfortable in the light, airy space.
