About

The Royal Hotel is a hotel in Featherston. We are one of only two hotels in New Zealand to display the Royal Coat of Arms of the United Kingdom, and we opened our doors in 1868. Our team staffs the bar on weekends. We feature NZ Colonial and Victorian architecture with soaring ceilings and ornate detailing throughout our spaces. We offer Brac & Bow restaurant, serving a balanced menu and an extensive beverage list.

We booked this hotel after ranking Wairarapa's accommodation by comfort, proximity to activities and whimsy. This place outranked all the other hotels and air B&B's on each metric. Featherston's antiques and bookstores are a reminder that simpler is better and that the future's best ideas are well explored in the past. The featherston hotel is a great reminder of this too, it has been around since 1870 and has far more staying power than any airB&B's novelty. The owners staff the bar on weekends and are full of great suggestions for the region. Their workers are full of cheer and well known to regulars. For a town now dedicated to books, the hotel acts as a great spot to find a cozy armchair to read in.

High quality with great food. The staff were friendly and did well to accommodate our large group. The wait for food wasn’t even too bad considering the group’s size! The location is good too.

We stopped for dinner at the Brac & Bow restaurant. Superb! The menu was not extensive, but beautifully balanced to make final choice challenging. The beverage list ran to 31 pages. Quality was the rival of anything we’ve experienced in Vancouver (where we come from) or London (where we used to live), at prices that don’t come close to those cities. Unexpected gem in a small town.

This is the second time I’ve stayed here loved it and will be coming back again probably in two years if we’re still alive I have to make a special mention to the Service and one particular lady and I think her name is Chrissy. I hope I’ve got that name correctly . She was on charge on Monday the 26th. She was doing everything serving at the bar serving at the tables looking after everybody. and smiling all the time

I've stayed in hotels all over the world, but this one in the Wairarapa is very special and now one of my favourites. On entry, the hotel is elegant and stylish. The Brac & Bow restaurant has an inviting and warm ambience - the staff are superb. I stayed in the Jules Verne room - I loved exploring the room and finding all the interesting and surprising details. The room was sophisticated and classic, and yet very comfortable. I had a wonderful sleep. I highly recommend this hotel for excellent service, fabulous attention to detail from the staff, food and decor, and as a stay that makes you feel a little special.
