I am writing this review based on my direct personal experience with Mary Brigham while she was serving as a court-appointed attorney. During meetings, she repeatedly attempted to tell me what to say. I was uncomfortable with this and explicitly refused. I found this behavior unprofessional and inappropriate for an attorney in a court-appointed role. This was when I was seven years old. I also have serious concerns about billing practices. My parents were charged $350 per hour, despite my understanding that in Connecticut, court-appointed private attorneys (assigned counsel) are paid at a much lower hourly rate ($75/hour in 2024 for family court). Based on my experience, I would strongly encourage anyone working with Mary Brigham especially in a court-appointed context to ask detailed questions about representation boundaries and billing practices, and to independently verify what is permitted under Connecticut rules. Transparency and professionalism are essential, particularly when clients are in vulnerable situations.
