Whittemore SanctuaryWhittemore Sanctuary
Whittemore Sanctuary is a hiking area in Woodbury that features an extensive 8-mile trail system. Our trails wind through diverse ecological habitats, including woodlands, streams, ponds, and a large bog. The sanctuary was acquired by Flanders after managing the property for 35 years. We preserve a forest that is historically one of Connecticut's oldest privately managed forests, with planted white pine, regenerated oak, and large laurel and tulip tree stands. Our property supports endangered, threatened, and rare plants within its bog and wetlands.
