This review is for the brand new Aurora Health Center on Union Ave. I am a cardiac and pulmonary patient. I visited the new Health Center for the first time last week. The cardiac/pulmonary office is as far back as a person can possibly walk in that building. Why would heart/lung patients be made to walk such a long distance? I did okay, but what happens to the next person who is unable to make the long hike? I was very disappointed. The placement of the office showed a complete lack of compassion and understanding of a special need patient.
Yet another reminder that customer service is an antiquated notion, reaffirming to us all that courtesy and caring are outdated concepts from days of yore. I can appreciate that the online scheduling process, during which personal information such name and phone number and email address are recorded, may not mesh perfectly with the real world, real-time booking calendar. However, failure to communicate such a discrepancy prior to arrival at the originally-scheduled time displays a sheer lack of courtesy from an organization whose self-proclaimed differentiation is to, “treat each person as a person, not as a patient, an illness or an appointment.” So here I am, a person, obviously not a patient nor an appointment, dreaming of the day when a healthcare provider will mail, call, email, telegram, or carrier pigeon, prior to arrival for an appointment, with the paramount message that an online-scheduled appointment does not truly exist. Perhaps some day Aurora, perhaps some day.
I do have good things to say about the OBGYN dept, but this rating is more for public awareness about their unethical policies. During a time I did NOT have insurance, I participated in getting a vaccine by signing up for an Aurora Sheboygan Southside Clinic FREE via their online instructions. I no longer use Aurora for anything I don't have to, so they are not a primary source of any medical needs. I gave the information provided, which included selecting the option of NO INSURANCE. It was also expressed I needed to proof of identification (an ID) when arriving to said appt. The appt was fine, and speedy. I did note there was never a time anyone asked me for identification other than the basic information any tech savvy individual, or anyone having been within ear shot anytime in my life would find. Fast forward 2 months. I get a letter from an insurance company stating my claim has been rejected because I didn't have insurance with them. Nothing was charged as the service was free, but the point I'm making is they did not follow their procedures by 1. not asking me for I.D.; 2. authorizing the use of insurance I no longer had access to, since I clearly stated on the forms they required me to fill out that I had NO INSURANCE. I did call the billing dept to have them explain to me how someone who has no insurance gave them the right to bypass my information I had to provide. The company that was being accessed has not been my employer for a year and a half. The response I got was it's their policy to bill insurance on file. I had her say it again, after asking If I personally gave them permission to bypass the information I specifically had to submit, to bill a a previous employer's insurance company I no longer work for. The generic response was, it's their policy. Have they ever told you in an appt that no matter what you submit, they will always use what is on file. The person was composed and polite, and asked a few times if they could update my insurance info. I told them this is what I consider a breach of ethics and professional conduct, therefore not a place I trust with my business. In an emergency, yes, I'd utilize their services, it's not as if we have a myriad of choices in this community. But I do question if they are ever audited for their procedures, if not, they should be on a monthly schedule for that.
I've been there several times and they don't really seem to care about you. I went in with seizures and they wrote it off like I was overreacting. I even had one in front of the doctor and he went "huh that's weird. Don't operate machinery. See your general care provider"
