Panini sandwiches and a variety of deli offerings
We had the monthly special today! The Scooby Doo was delish. My husband has never eaten here before and he couldn't believe how heavy my bag was for two sandwiches. He was sure I purchased more. I have always had excellent Panini's from here. I would recommend Arrosto to anyone wanting a fantastic fresh Panini.
I recently stopped in to grab lunch for my wife and me at Arrosto deli in Sheboygan that advertises itself as offering a true New York–style Italian deli experience. As a fellow Culinary Institute of America graduate, I walked in with high expectations. Unfortunately, the experience fell well short of that claim. Right off the bat, the bread selection was underwhelming—just focaccia or ciabatta. There was no Italian sub roll, no crusty hard roll, nothing that resembles the foundation of a proper deli sandwich. For a place leaning on the “NY-style” label, that’s a major miss. Even more disappointing, the meats were all pre-sliced and sitting in holding pans. In any respectable Italian deli, meats are sliced fresh to order. Pre-slicing compromises both texture and flavor, not to mention raises questions about freshness. I arrived right at opening and was the only customer in the shop. I ordered two 6" sandwiches and asked a simple, reasonable question: could I purchase a small portion of sliced turkey on the side for my dog? The employee seemed confused and had to go ask the owner. The answer came back as a flat “no.” That response alone was frustrating—not just as a customer, but as a chef and business owner. Refusing such a simple request shows a lack of flexibility and customer awareness. What made it worse is how easily it could have been solved. I suggested they simply add turkey to my sandwich order and wrap it separately. Problem solved in seconds. The fact that this didn’t occur to them speaks volumes. The menu itself also feels disconnected from what’s being advertised. There’s no classic cold Italian sub—something that should be the cornerstone of any Italian deli. Instead, everything is geared toward hot, panini-pressed sandwiches, many of which seem more like personal creations of the owners than traditional offerings. In a place like Sheboygan, where excellent local bakeries produce outstanding sandwich rolls, it’s baffling that none of those breads are used. To be fair, the sandwiches we received were good—but “good” isn’t enough when you’re setting expectations for an authentic New York deli experience. They could have been much better with the right bread, freshly sliced meats, and a more thoughtful approach to the menu. At the end of the day, it’s not just about the food—it’s about understanding your concept and taking care of your customers. When a business can’t accommodate a simple, reasonable request, it reflects a larger issue. Because of that, I won’t be returning.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant. We stopped in 15 minutes before they closed and the lady who helped us was pleasant and very friendly. I actually ordered her employee picked sandwich and I enjoyed it a lot especially the mushrooms. Such a nice atmosphere in a building with great character. I will differently be back, and not 15 minutes before they close so I can actually enjoy the ambiance. Grateful to have found the place.
Arrosto is amazing . First time being here and was very impressed by the atmosphere as well as the food. 10/10 would go there again. Solid serving size as well.
We had an errand to run up by Sheboygan so decided to stop by and get dinner - we love supporting local - what a great find! This felt like such a cozy homey kind of place that really puts a lot of attention into the details and fresh ingredients. We had grilled cheese on focaccia (a real wonderful surprise for this grilled cheese traditionalist!!), the soup of the week (broccoli cheddar) and the beer cheese & roast beef on focaccia served the Wisconsin way. All of it was delicious! Generous portions. Great flavors, made to order, on fresh focaccia. Lots of drink options. And to end it all - really delicious macarons. Our server, Zach, was very helpful and friendly - willing to give advice when we asked. Make sure you give this place a try! Great locally owned deli - I know we’ll definitely be back!
