Tricky pricing and unhelpful manager. We were in yesterday to pick up some water. They have Poland Springs on sale for $0.99, but you have to look closely because there are two sizes that are shelves next to each other. One is priced at $2.59 and the other is at $2.49. Apparently, it was the $2.49 version that was on sale for $0.99. They didn’t have any of the $2.49 left on the shelves. So when we got to the register we noticed the discount was not coming off. So the checkout person called over the manager who went and pulled the sale sticker off the shelf, came back and told us we had the $2.59 version and that no discount would apply. Seriously? She said there were a few ounces of difference in the jugs of water and that the ones we selected were not on sale. There was no accommodation for the fact that they had shelved the jugs next to each other making it hard for anyone to tell which is which. Basically, she seemed to not care or was not empowered to do anything about it or both. These are all stores consolidated under the Giant brand. Consolidation sucks and leads to bad customer services and high prices. So much for the Consumer Welfare Standard, Robert Bork!
