The employees were clearly outstanding. Helpful in every way. As we stayed in room2, the only thing that was missing was the ice machine. Being disabled, we had to send the employee to the tavern to refill the ice bucket.You really need an ice machine at or near the check-in location. Everything else was PERFECT.
10/10 experience at Lost Fox Inn. My fiancée and I stayed over at the Inn which was beautifully designed, clean, quiet and romantic. We had dinner at the tavern and their new chef Thomas Burke is absolutely incredible. Michelin Star-level menu and one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The bar is so cool too. It keeps the feel of being from the 1740s (because it is) while also being upscale. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, happy hour, dinner, or a wedding venue, Lost Fox Inn is the perfect destination.
Great place for dinner or to stay. We live right in Woodbury, but did a little staycation and the room was awesome with a big tub right in the room plus the bedding was super comfortable. Dinner and service was excellent I had the pork chop, and my fiancé had the lamb chops. Both were executed and cooked perfectly with delightful sides. Love the design of the old house which is now the resturant. You can pretty much feel the history when you walk in and I’m sure these walls could tell some stories all the way back to tve 1700’s.
Pros: -All staff were friendly and helpful -Aesthetics are on point throughout the property (main Inn, Schoolhouse, Tavern) -Individual control over temperature -Deep soaking tub with lavender bath salts, ambient bathroom lighting, and wood fireplace were lovely, romantic touches -Complimentary breakfast Cons: -On a busy road means nearly constant road noise -Strong aesthetics, but execution falls short of a five-star experience -Schoolhouse stay was loud, jarring, and lacked privacy We booked an Inn King room with fireplace and soaking tub but were unexpectedly upgraded to the Schoolhouse upon arrival. It was more space than we needed (kitchenette, living room, dining room, two bathrooms), but it was a nice nod to our anniversary. The room: The Schoolhouse design is very appealing—modern in places while still fitting the historic property. However, it sits directly on the interior road to the Inn, so cars and people pass by, and there were a few conversations held near our bedroom windows. Around 10pm each night, we were jolted awake by loud banging from a very sticky door ~2 feet from the head of the bed. This door leads to a private staff apartment; initially, it sounded like someone was trying to break in. Room: 3/5 (noise, lack of privacy) Sleep quality: Pillows offered a good mix of soft/firm (two per person), and bedding was comfortable. The bed leaned firm (not our personal preference, but won't take off stars from review). Road noise and the adjacent apartment door disrupted sleep. Sleep: 4/5 Soaking tub & fireplace: Soaking tub: 5/5, excellent. Fireplace: 4/5—lovely, but requires staff to build it. Evening service was great, with a very personable gentleman who came over from the Tavern to build it, but we did not feel comfortable asking for an early-morning fire as would have usually been our preference. (Main Inn rooms have remote-controlled gas fireplaces that are less aesthetic, more convenient.) Execution of the experience: A few small details prevent this from feeling truly luxe: -Nespresso machine provided, but only large coffee cups made for awkward proportions; no creamer in-room so we purchased some, later found out there was some available in lobby -No drinking water provided (reusable chilled bottles for tap/filtered water would elevate the experience) -Breakfast in the Tavern is beautiful but identical each day: slightly cool, underseasoned frittata; excellent bacon; well-seasoned but soggy home fries; bagels with lox/cream cheese; plain scones with raspberry coulis; juice, fruit, yogurt, granola, coffee. Unlabeled ramekins (hot sauce vs. coulis) are easy to confuse in low lighting -Bathroom door in the Schoolhouse does not close/latch
What a wonderful weekend we had. At first it was just going to be dinner (we live only an hour away) - then we decided to take a room at the inn. So glad we did! The whole vibe is so wonderful. The staff is excellent! The accommodations were lovely - and The Tavern is not to be missed! We started with cocktails in the bar by the fire. Then went upstairs to the dining hall (this building is 1734) and we had a private booth near the fireplace. The menu had a wonderful array of choices - and key lime pie for dessert! Make sure you tour the whole tavern - there's a small library and a snooker room. In the morning, there was a beautiful breakfast (comes with the room). Locally, so much to do in so many wonderful small towns - Litchfield, Torrington, Bantam, Washington, and Kent - Art Galleries, Museums, History, Antiques, Restaurants, Shops. In two days we had a full mini vacay!
