Our grocery store features a deli, bakery, wine, and sushi to go
Love going here because the prices are reasonable and the employees are very kind. Last time I went here I was rung up by a young lady with black hair (I think her name was Maddy) and she had great customer service. Would recommend!
My wife is a regular customer of this Sendik's. On April 21st, she walked in and found (8) bottles of Oberweiss whole milk all expired. She had to walk to the customer service desk to ask for someone to get her an Oberweiss milk that wasn't expired. After waiting a couple of minutes, a young man came out with one that wasn't expired. This was reported to the service desk. No further complaint made. Then on May 9th (the day before Mother's day) she walked in, grabbed (4) tubes of dog food and proceeded to checkout. They had one cashier for which there was a long line to the aisle and another line for self-checkout. My wife took the tubes of dog food and placed them at a register at customer service. The women told her she would not ring up her items because she was only doing lottery tickets and that my wife could go back to the line and wait. She had finished with a man and there was no one behind him. Another man came in after me and walked up to the cashier and she announced she would be serving him first. After finishing with him, she again refused to ring up the items. My wife suggested to her they might want to consider more cashiers, especially before a holiday. The cashier said she didn't make the schedule and told my wife she was being rude. This cashier spent more time arguing with her than what the purchase took to ring up, which consisted of her pressing the #4 and scanning one tube of dog food. It took less than a minute. My wife had her own bag and put the tubes in herself. She left the store embarrassed and humiliated, that she would have to argue in front of other customers over such a simple task. Is that not what customer service is for. She could understand this behavior if she walked up with a full cart of groceries. In addition, my wife has had surgery on both shoulders. She underestimated the weight of the tubes, which was causing her pain and why she did not grab a cart on the way in. The weight of the tubes along with her purse can be a challenge for her. Staff at this store need to recognize that some folks are not being rude, they need assistance.
I shop here every now and then as I live close by and overall my experience has been positive. Prices are definitely more expensive than pick n’ save or walmart but it’s to be expected when you shop at sendik’s, however they have a good variety of products you can’t buy elsewhere which is why I shop here. The biggest issue I have is the amount of expired products they keep on the salesfloor, especially in the international food’s section and in frozen by the vendor pizza’s. I notified management and instead of pulling the product off the floor they marked it down instead of disposing of it. What store keeps expired products on the floor and marks it down instead of throwing it out? Total incompetence by management and no accountability for the grocery associate/manager! Literally they have cup noodles brand ramen which expired back in January marked down instead of pulled off the shelf, same for the brew pub cheese pizza’s which are a vendor product, they also expired back in January and are still on the shelf marked down instead of being credited back to the vendor. Make sure you check all dates on your products because this store doesn’t follow proper reclamation procedures! Outside of the occasional expired grocery products I feel it’s a decent store to shop as the staff is friendly and helpful, but they could definitely do better and set standards instead of doing the bare minimum. If this continues on with lack of standards I’m just gonna shop elsewhere, there is no excuse for keeping expired products on the shelf. Seriously you people marked down expired grocery items instead of following proper claims procedures, do better!
Most employees are pretty friendly but they’re often out of stock of the few items I go there for and some of their prices can be outrageous for example the last time I was there I noticed it was $12 for a regular sized bag of popcorn of one particular brand and $28.49 per pound of macadamia nuts, wth?! I uploaded pictures to show the prices, I only took pics because I was so shocked at how much prices have gone up.
We are from out of town and stopped in for a few things. Wish we had one of these stores near us. Produce looked fresh, deli was wonderful, loved their olive bar and the selection of fish and meats looked appetizing. Bakery and deserts were yummy and attractively displayed. They also have a great wine and cheese section.
