My first Pap exam here was extremely painful and mishandled. I kept telling them that the exam was hurting, but instead of adjusting anything, they only told me to breathe in and out even though I was already relaxed and doing that. They also did not size down the speculum, which clearly would have helped, and they did not check in with me to make sure I was comfortable before continuing. A student was brought into the room and stayed for the entire visit, but I was never asked if I consented to having a student present during such a personal exam. Both the student and the gynecologist performed parts of the exam on me including inserting two fingers and completing the swab without ever asking my permission for the student to participate. I did not consent to that, and it made the experience even more uncomfortable and distressing. I didn’t feel seen, heard, or respected at any point. The pain was significant, and the lack of communication and consent made it worse. As a woman of color, I did not feel properly cared for at this clinic. I do not recommend coming here based on my experience. :/
