Visiting a place of worship for the first time is mostly a matter of knowing the small practical things. Nobody will mind if you get them wrong.
Arriving
Aim for ten minutes early. There is usually someone at the door who will hand you a printed order of service and point you to a seat. Sitting near the back is normal and makes it easy to follow what others do.
Dress
Most congregations are relaxed, and neat everyday clothes are fine. Some traditions expect shoulders and knees covered, a head covering, or shoes removed at the door. If in doubt, dress modestly and follow what people around you do.
During the service
Stand and sit with everyone else, or stay seated if you prefer. You are not expected to recite anything, sing, or take communion. Photographs are generally not appropriate during worship.
Money
A collection is usually taken. Visitors are not expected to give, and passing the basket along is completely normal.
Afterwards
Many congregations serve coffee and will be pleased you came. If you would rather slip out, that is fine too. Almost every place of worship lists a contact who is happy to answer questions before you visit.
