Summer music academy in Door County for young musicians
Excellent music center for high school kids. We come every year for the jazz weeks. The kids (about 50 for the first two week session) practice and perform together with some of the top musicians for two weeks. The teachers preform on Wed, Thu, Fri of each week at night. If you like big band jass. This is the place to be. See you next year.
Our child had a very poor experience here. If your child doesn't fit in or "normal" this is not a very welcoming place. For talented kids that don't fit we would recommend Whitewater, Milwaukee Jazz Institute and Madison summer camps.
A lovely location to listen to music. Both the teachers and students played. The students were inspiring and the teachers are very accomplished professionals themselves. Highly recommend you add a performance there to your stay in Door County.
Birch Creek Music Performance Center has been a transformative experience for our family. My twins attended the summer music academy during high school—my son focused on percussion, and my daughter on bassoon. The immersive instruction and performance opportunities greatly enhanced their musical skills. My daughter is now a senior at Vanderbilt University studying music performance, a testament to the foundation Birch Creek provided. Additionally, the center offers public concerts throughout the summer, showcasing talented students and faculty in genres like Percussion, Steel Pan & World Music, Symphony, and Big Band Jazz. These performances are a highlight of the season and a must-see for music enthusiasts.
If visiting Door County in the first two weeks of July, you MUST stop by for a very pleasant evening listing to classical music played by some very talented young musicians!
