Explore a mountain trail with a 270-degree view to the Catskills
Stone Man Mountain Trailhead is a hiking area in Canaan, Connecticut. We invite visitors to explore the Stone Man Mountain trail, located within the privately-owned Great Mountain Forest. Our trail is known as the "Iron Trail," honoring the region's history as an iron-making hub in the 1800s. Our scenery changes from lush forests with Eastern Hemlocks and green moss to areas with lichens clinging to rocks as you ascend. When you reach the summit, we offer expansive 270-degree views, extending to the Catskill Mountains on clear days. Our trail is 2.8 miles long with a 682 ft elevation gain, typically taking 1.52 hours to complete.

Amazing hike. An unknown gem
