Hollenbeck Preserve is a nature preserve in Canaan. We protect significant parts of the Hollenbeck River's watershed and provide habitat for several rare plant and animal species, including Connecticut's declining grassland bird species like bobolink and meadowlarks.
Our team maintains the preserve's fields, specifically for grassland birds, and we are planting elm trees on site. Visitors can look for wildflowers in the spring and observe birds in the fields near the trail during the summer.
We welcome passive recreation such as hiking, birding, canoeing, nature study, and cross-country skiing. The preserve's landscape features a swamp wooded with red maple, black ash, white pine, and hemlock trees, alongside open fields.
