Exhibit area, auditorium, and gift shop at the Kettle Moraine State Forest
A nice little detour off the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive. Lots of informative displays about the area inside. Look for the Mammoth teeth. They are huge! Plenty of taxidermy mounts to see, but there is one living creature inside. See if you can find him. 🐢 Check out the nice little gift shop too.
Awesome (and educational!!) place to check out if you're nearby! Although we camp and hike in the area frequently, we've never stopped in at the IAT Visitor's Center before today, but I'm glad we did. 😊 There's a lot of historical info to read, many taxidermied animals to look at, some beautiful trails to explore, and neat trinkets to purchase. Be sure to say "hello" to Scooter, their ornate box turtle who seems to love the attention! I'm so sad I did not catch her name, but the assistant working behind the desk was super friendly and abundant in her knowledge of the area; her love of not only the land, but its animals shone through!
The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, readily answering questions and offering insights into the various recreational opportunities available in the surrounding Kettle Moraine State Forest. They were eager to share tips on the best hiking trails for different skill levels and highlight key geological points of interest along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
Wonderful place with great folks. Beautiful design and right at the start of the Zillmer Trails.
best place to visit in this immediate vicinity, but we didn't go to the bulk of the state forest so don't listen to me. lots of trails (3-5 miles long) accessible from this point. cool museum. thanks for the taxidermy ron
