Although I am no longer part of this church, we still have family who are a part. One of our family members has been battling different forms of cancer for the past year. He was recently put in hospice and we found out last week that he only had a few days left to live. His wife reached out to the parish to have the priest come to their home to give her husband a final blessing. The first question she was asked was how recently she had donated to the parish. She explained she had not attended mass recently because her husband has been battling different forms of cancer for the past year, with the most recent being brain cancer. The person she spoke on the phone with looked her up and said the last date that they had of her making a donation. She explained that she had made more recent donations, but when she goes to church she just puts money into the basket instead of using the envelopes. She was then lectured about how important it is for her to use the envelopes because the parish spends a lot of money on them. Her husband is about to die any day and she is being lectured about how she should be using the envelopes to make donations. The phone call ended with them saying they will have someone call her in the next 24 hours, but no one ever called. I am utterly disgusted with how this was handled. Her husband died a few days later, but thankfully she was able to find someone to come and bless him. Shame on whoever at St. Stanislaus took that phone call and how you handled it. You should be ashamed of yourself.
