Boynton Chapel

A Norwegian stave church recreation with hand-painted frescoes

About

Boynton Chapel is a church in Baileys Harbor. Our chapel was handcrafted between 1939 and 1947 in a late 12th-century Norwegian stave church style, modeled after the Garmo stave church in Norway. We are located on 441 wooded acres along Lake Michigan. Our chapel features 41 hand-painted frescoes and carved-wood furnishings. We offer tours during the summer season on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 1:00-4:00 p.m. We are a site for weddings, baptisms, and family services.

There for a Natural Resource Foundation group tour. Beautiful facility. Beautiful grounds. Love the very tall old cedar stand right out front! Then walking the trails you will catch a glimpse of what makes Door County special. You get to witness the ancient "Ridge and Swale" complex in Door County is a unique It is a globally recognized ecosystem of 30 alternating forested dunes (ridges) and wet, marshy wetlands (swales) formed by changing Lake Michigan water levels over the last 1,400 years. The Chapel is the "cherry" (please make note of that reference for Door County) on top! Must do hike!

Awesome little hidden gem. If you go, be sure to get the tour (tours run from 1-4) because the interior and the story of the creation are amazing

I used this venue for my wedding. We had a very small, intimate service. We got married 2 years ago in October and the colors in the leaves with the church were stunning. We've gone back to visit and it's a very nice area to walk around and the view if you walk over to the water from there is beautiful.

I am a photographer with a lot of experience photographing weddings at Boynton Chapel. It's actually where I photographed my first wedding ever so it always holds a special place in my heart. The chapel itself is small, so that's perfect for an intimate ceremony with close loved ones. There is more room outside to bring in chairs for more people, and you can use the chapel as a beautiful backdrop.

This was such a cool find on our hike! The chapel is absolutely beautiful and the grounds are well-kept. It's one of the most calming places to be.
