Providing mental health education, support, and outreach in Appleton
The NAMI support groups were very helpful to me. I have gained alot of helpful information from my peers and also I've been able share my experience with my mental health struggles. I realize that my peers had some of the same symptoms as me. I was able to share what has helped me remain stable. I took the hearts and minds class which was helpful. I've been attending NAMi for several years.
The online NAMI support group stays confidential which allows us to speak freely. The facilitators are both knowledgeable and are helpful in finding additional resources . They have helped me navigate life with a loved one struggling with mental health.
I went to a class through them. The first class we were asked about allergies, I told them about my severe citrus allergy. On the last class,there were cookies on the table to eat wrapped individually,no sign to say donated unknown what is in them. I thought that since I had told everyone about my allergy that they were fine,plus they looked like sugar cookies.. I took a bite and spit it immediately. The instructor laughed about it and said well I guess it has citrus in it and they were donated.It was a citrus cookie. During class I started getting a severe headache. On the drive home, I pulled it ver and took liquid Benadryl. I got home and within minutes, I left and went to the ER , I had to have IV Benadryl. I was lucky it wasn't worse. Plus I took a women's gathering and made a sun catcher. I was told repeatedly that it wasn't mailed out each week same thing it was just mailed out, never got it. I also took a ZOOM peer meeting and they never asked another person to stop talking,he took up the whole meeting. I wouldn't go to this place,if you have allergies or want to be lied too.
It's a scam. Never donate money to NAMI. The don't help people with crisis or disability, they use the money to educate. Constantly short staffed because people realized it is a scam .
I attended a great support group meeting.
