Kettle Hole Woods State Natural Area

Kettle Hole Woods State Natural Area is a nature preserve in Adell, characterized by its isolated hill forested with southern mesic and dry-mesic hardwoods. We feature an excellent canopy of very large trees, primarily red oak and sugar maple, along with beech, basswood, white ash, white oak, and bitternut hickory. Ephemeral ponds are scattered throughout our site, and our ground layer includes mayapple, Pennsylvania sedge, interrupted fern, lady fern, and wild geranium. Visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing and scientific research is permitted.
