Beachfront resort with a restaurant, bar, and outdoor pool
Rooms are abit old but still in good condition. I got upgrade for free and the villa view on the sea is amazing Staff very kind, breakfast is heavy, you won't feel hungry for a while. The reception closes at 5pm while is quite early..
Quiet and the location is excellent, right on a wide sandy beach. The surrounding area is a bite lively, with several restaurants, bars, and even a pharmacy nearby. Koh Mack is a very quite island, so dont expect animations or party. The staff, as is often the case in Thailand, were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We stayed for six nights in a delux sea view room that showed signs of age, and the bed was quite old and uncomfortable. We were told that the beds are scheduled to be replaced soon. Breakfast was very basic, with limited variety and few options. The facilities are also quite simple plastic sun beds without cushions and towels that felt over used. Overall, I’m not sure it fully meets the standards of a three-star property in Thailand, and the building would definitely benefit from some renovation.
Mixed experience at Makathanee resort. We were positively surprised by the peacefulness of the resort, with the clean grass and beach. The scenic views add to the charm with the nearby islands and the pier that makes it easy to access. The rooftop bar was also enjoyable for drinks. However on the downside, the rooms we stayed in were fairly outdated (this is not the case for all rooms, but we definitely had one of the bad ones). The spring mattress wasn’t confortable and quite old, and so was the bathroom. We didn’t have water several times during the trip, with no notice or information about it from the hotel staff. The breakfast was also average, although the coffee wasn’t great (only instant coffee from Nescafé machine available). To end on a great note, there were several playground areas for toddlers, and that on its own was a huge plus, so I highly recommend for kids. Again, mixed experience, but with some minor renovations and better information it could be 5 stars.
I stayed in two different rooms here and loved them both. Staff is very friendly and they have everything you could possibly want to rent including scooters, stand up paddle boards, kayaks and more. Many great restaurants around and the free breakfast was great. I'll be staying here when I return to Koh Mak. Pictures are of the beach bungalow and the normal hotel next to the pool.
Enjoyed our stay at Makathanee Resort. Centrally located on the 'strip' at Koh Mak so close to lots of restaurants and bars. Very roomy apartment although a lot of empty space. Clean and comfortable rooms. Excellent breakfast with omelettes, fried eggs and pancakes freshly made. Lovely friendly staff. Beach directly outside hotel is a bit small, but better beach options are just a short walk away. Overall the building is showing its age a bit but it's a good central location and not a bad option.
