The Beach Bums are four locals who play live music at beach bars between Ballito and Zinkwazi, most Friday and Saturday nights. The set is mostly covers people know the words to, from Johnny Clegg and Mango Groove to Fleetwood Mac, plus a few originals about bad parking and low tide. It's for anyone who wants a night out that doesn't need a dress code. Families come for the early sets, the later ones get louder. Yes, when the calendar allows. Weddings book out fastest in December and over Easter, so message Jono two or three months ahead. The band brings its own PA for venues up to about 150 people.
The early sets are, usually 5 to 7pm on Saturdays. After that the volume goes up and most venues become adults only, so check the event listing for the venue's age rules.
Yes. Write it on a napkin and hand it to whoever's closest to the tip jar. If they know it, they'll play it that night. If they don't, there's a fair chance it's in the set by next month.
