About

Burgerhuis Museum is a museum in Stellenbosch. We are housed in an 18th-century Cape Dutch building, originally a family home built in 1797 by Antonie Fick. Our exhibits offer insight into the way of life in Dutch colonial South Africa, featuring intricately carved woodwork and a restored yellowwood kitchen with a brick fireplace.

The Burgerhuis Museum was built in 1797 by Antonie Fick as a family home and is free to visit. It offers visitors a deeper understanding of Stellenbosch's past and the way of life in Dutch colonial South Africa. The highlights obviously include the intricately carved woodwork, including the distinctive front door frame and interior beams. The restored yellowwood kitchen boasts an impressive brick fireplace and traditional baking oven. Even the formal front garden is a joy to behold. The staff were not very engaging. The museum is funded by the Rembrandt Group.

The staff were very engaging and answered all our questions on the history of the area. Would definitely bring the family to learn more about Stellenbosch's history.
