Had a lovely lunch at Mall Cafe. The chicken curry was absolutely amazing—full of flavour, perfectly spiced, and really hit the spot. Great food and a relaxed vibe. Definitely coming back! If this restaurant was in Durban it would be the best Indian food.
Once again Mall Cafe delivered a delicious, high-quality lamb bunny. I’m yet to eat at an establishment in KZN with this consistently high level of excellence. Succulent lamb that falls off the one bone. Perfectly cooked potato and a gravy that is out of this world. Using only fresh ingredients, A grade cuts and never freezing or selling yesterdays left overs only serves to emphasise the standards the owners go to deliver the best Indian food on KZN’s North Coast. Munira Khader is heading up one of South Africa’s best Indian Restaurants. I’ve eaten everything off the menu, her food and hospitality is unmatched. You can also relax and talk cars, sound and Indian food with Munira’s husband, Rafiq Adam Khader while you wait for to eat. Take a visit, you will not be disappointed, just blown away - two of the best people feeding 10/10 food to a community that keeps coming back. The curries and biryanis are also out of this world!
Mall Cafe, Stanger aka KwaDukuza Takeaway meal, a week ago. The much awaited talk of the town. When you arrive, don’t be intimidated by the orange belt, open, and enter 😉. Once we figured that out, we found Munira and Rafiq nestled behind the counter, springing into action with their warm service 🙏🏼 As we ventured from afar 🥳, we wanted to try a variety of meals, including the Prawns Curry, any breyani, and of course, the Mutton* Bunny Chow. But alas, they were closing earlier for a family event, and the day’s offerings were limited. 2 x 1/4 Mutton* Decon 8.3/10 *Yeah, it’s not mutton, it’s lamb, but Rafiq understood. Also don’t blame me, many others refer to it as mutton too 😅 Rating is for the meal only. Munira slipped away whilst we continued chatting with Rafiq and was back in within 10min with our meal. Curries were packed in 2 x 350ml tubs and thankfully placed in a clear packet, as there was an accidental oil leak. Whilst the bread was fresh, it was not cut out and was smaller than a regular quarter. The salad was spot on in flavour but short on quantity. Now for the business of the day. After skimming off some oil, we had 3 medium and 3 smaller pieces of meat, which were almost cooked to perfection. Just a little softer, since it was lamb and not mutton, and it would have been nailed. The gravy was flavourful, well spiced, with balanced salt, but I felt the heat to be medium. I did see vinegar chilies in other posts, perhaps should reuqest some next time. The potato was cooked but very small. Overall, we understand the hype and the love of the flavour. At R125 for a decon, I would prefer a standard quarter and closer to 500ml serving of curry. Perhaps a dine in would be a better option next time.
If you ever need a great bunny or pizza this place is affordable 👌 tasty and the curries have flavour and the portions of meat and flavour is huge and freshness guarantee. Owner managed and run and attention to detail
Thank you Mr Adam for an excellent lunch of lamb curry. Your restaurant is neat and clean and we enjoyed the Indian music. A great atmosphere. We will return for Breyani on. Wednesday or Friday next time.
