We had a short family getaway. Decided on Montagu springs. After I read a lot of reviews negative and positive the day before we arrived I had a sleeplessness night, worried that we would not be happy with the place. We arrived and were pleasantly surprised. We stayed in one of the Golden Terrace chalets called magic moments. It was clean, bright white bedding and the chalet well looked after. Yes, it is dated, but everything was in a working condition. The smaller mobile home type of accommodation is in desperate need of revamping. The warm water pool was extremely busy during the day, we decided to go later in the evening and it was nice and quiet. Water warm. Staff very friendly and helpful. My teenage boys loved the games room. Will we be back, most definitely. Will we recommend Montagu springs, definitely.

This place should really get no stars at all. The curtains are torn. There are holes in the wall and front door. There are cigarette-burns and stains on the couches. The bathroom basin looks like someone had a braai in it. The blinds are broken. There are scratch-marks on the walls inside. The lights and plugs are dirty. They advertise swimming pools, but there is no washing line to hang wet towels. The outside lights don't work. The steps are cracked and broken. The plastic chairs have burn marks and are cracked. There is left-over food stuck to the oven grill - obviously not cleaned The place is filthy. The gas for the oven isn't turned on and the bottle is sealed and locked. The bedroom door is coming off the rails. The bath leaks. And on and on and on.. Frankly, I feel like crying for wasting my money on this place. It is absolutely disgusting.

We stayed at Montagu Springs Resort for one night and had a lovely experience. The resort is surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, creating a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The accommodation was comfortable, the facilities were well maintained, and the hot pools were the perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring. The staff were friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. A great place to relax and enjoy everything Montagu has to offer. We’d happily stay here again!

So we decided to visit this resort at the beginning of May this year for a family reunion. Despite it being winter, we anticipated warm water as the very name suggests, i.e. Montague 'Springs'. Now in the past we have visited Goudini Spa Resort in July which is typically a cold wintry month, but the water was hot and very welcoming. Our expectations of Montague springs was very different from the reality we faced. No hot springs at all! The very name is a lie. The heated pool was not very warm at all. We ended up paying R100 for a day pass at Avalon springs next door but even then, did not have access to the indoor hot pool. We had no access to the games they claim to have available, as the conference centre was booked out for the week without any notice. Best they could do was to offer board games at reception, which, by the way, I could stay home and do. The only thing I enjoyed was the working aircon in our wooden chalet which was the only thing keeping us warm, other than that, a complete waste of our hard earned money. That place will never see me again.

Great friendly and helpful staff, little prefab rooms are desperately in need of an update, but had fully equipped kitchenette. Nice pools hot and cold with a playground next to the river. Walking distance to the hot springs nextdoor at Avalon resort
