An elegant hotel featuring a spa, a restaurant, and pools
It was the best short break I had with my grandsons. The resort is beautiful, well-kept. Our accommodation was fantastic, the breakfast buffet was out of this World... But most of all: The staff, all levels, are if the quality that I wish I could clone. Friendly, efficient, engaged, fast to react. Brilliant. We will be back❤️
My husband and I enjoyed a short winter break at Avalon and it had everything we needed/wanted :) Lovely pools, comfortable accommodation, good food and coffee, friendly and attentive staff. The local dassie colony was a nice entertaining surprise too. We’ll definitely be back ❤️
A place with both peace and tranquility as well as a safe space for families with kids to enjoy. Friendly and helpful team make you feel special and well looked after. Spening time in 2 different rooms, and viewing some others, Avalon does offer a wide variety of room options. In season vs out of season rates do make a difference for those watching their budget, but also specials like Boomerang for return visitors can be 20% discounted. Day visits are very popular and the huge chess set is very popular, as is the volleyball, with enough lawn for an impromptu soccer game. Braai areas strategically scattered around with picnic tables allow for families to relax and keep a watchful eye on their youngsters. The pools are crystal clear spring water treated with chlorine to ensure safe swimming conditions, with the resort removing chlorine from the water before reintroducing it back into nature, helping to maintain the eco system that they have very cleverly become a part of. Varying degrees of warm pools and both the private and public pool area have slides for loads of fun. Dassies pool side bar and bistro offers a little bit for everyone, which also has the take-away section that caters for day visitors, short term visitors and chalets, where you can get everything from BBQ Steak Gasby, strips-samoosa-chip combo, pizza to crisps and chocolates, to washing powder, basic grocery items and of course fire wood. Those wanting a more formal setting Cogman's is a lovely setting for a sit down meal, room service options. Buffet style breakfast for those booking hotel rooms, covers a spectrum of good food and variety. Self catering suites and chalets, offer comfortable kitchens to work in. A real get away with 24x7 access to both in-door pool and private pools minute the 1 hour maintenance window. A return visit is already in the works, decision is now what to revisit.... self catering suite, hotel deluxe or standard room or chalet, all have their different benefits, with deposits allowed for bookings even a year in advance. Wheelchair friendly. No pets and no smoking policy in place.
It's a lovely place. The grounds are beautiful, lush and well maintained. They have very friendly and helpful staff. The Dassies are a highlight. There are braai facilities for day visitors and you can purchase wood, firelighters and some braai equipment at the place but bring your own tongs and such. You have to pay a surcharge of R100 if you bring your own braai goodies and cold drinks. They do not allow you to bring in your own alcohol but there is a bar on site. You share the premisis with hotel guests if you are a day visitor. It's great for families and kids but it's slightly false advertising. It is supposed to be a "hot spring" but all the times we've been there either one or all of the pools are luke warm at best. They tell you its over 30 degrees in the water but it feels more like 20. Then when you tell them they say sorry they are having problems with the heating it's the same thing at montagu springs the hot pool is never hot. Unfortunately they have strict rules but they aren't well enforced. The rules state no eating in the pools but there were several people who did not adhere to this and the staff walked past numerous times and failed to enforce the rules. There was a family who ordered pizza from the Cafe and the children were in the pool with the food. Hotel guests also came to sit pool side with KFC wings and burgers despite there being ample seating (tables and chairs) on the grass. All in all we had a great time I just wish the hot springs were actually hot and they enforced the rules more regularly. Still, it won't stop us from coming back its a good place to chill and relax.
Stayed in a self catering mountain chalet. Accommodation is large and very comfortable. Lots provided in the rooms. The gardens and pools are well maintained - the best part of the place. The bar is great - the staff know how to mix a decent cocktail. Perhaps evening swims with less kiddies would be nice. Will be returning.
