I used to love staying at Lermitage but the standard of care customer service, rooms and general experience has declined over the past 2 years. I have been staying there every year for 3 years. The hotel desk staff are more interested in staring at Guests which seems like they are gathering information to gossip. The sheets in our unit were dirty and so were the towels on arrival already ruined the experience. I have never experienced something like this from what is supposed to an upmarket accommodation. Management of this place needs to catch a huge wake up call. Experience from booking to end is important. Your Staff need to be TRAINED on how to deal with Guests as this is seriously lacking. That was unfortunately my last stay at Lermitage.

Amazing location, ok rooms, inconsistent food and service.
The rooms were modern and newly decorated, but what’s with open plan bedroom bathroom! Definite design flaw.
Porter left us standing with our bags in the car park for 10 minutes so we set off to find the room ourselves, couldn’t locate them as number is inconsistent, porter found us, but was also unable to locate the room and had to set off for help.
Restaurant just as inconsistent, waiter didn’t know the menu and was serving appetisers but couldn’t tell what they were or what allergies they might trigger. The lamb and pasta dishes were sensational, the steak tough and crème brûlée scrambled.
Overall the place appears to be new, with inexperienced staff needing more support and training. But the location is exceptional, walking distance into town, the wine tram and the museums.

To celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary, my wife booked our lodging in Franschhoek near the wine tram. Following a two hour flight from Johannesburg to Franschhoek and a 30 minute drive from the airport, we arrived at L'Ermitage Franschhoek Chateau and Villas. Before the Uber driver had the opportunity to finish unloading our baggage, villa staff approached and greeted us. After a very quick check-in process, we got settled into what would be home for the next three days.
Our villa was very spacious, clean, and had everything that we needed to enjoy a romantic anniversary celebration- including a large soaking tub that was positioned in the center of the bedroom. Another thoughtful touch was the combo washer and dryer, which was very helpful considering that we were on day six of an almost one month holiday. Our particular Villa (#6) was positioned facing a breathtaking view of the nearby mountains; paired with the fog and light rain, this further set the mood for a romantic anniversary. On mornings when we did not feel like leaving the villa, we ordered room service from the friendly restaurant staff.
On our actual anniversary, I coordinated with staff to arrange decoration of the villa commemorating our anniversary. While my wife and I were gone to nearby Stellenbosch to enjoy multiple wineries via the wine tram (the tram station is roughly 20 minutes from the villa, staff decorated the room. We returned to a tastefully decorated room and most importantly, my found it to be delightful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at L'Ermitage Franschhoek Chateau and Villas. The property is in close proximity (via walking or driving) to the downtown area - which consists of restaurants, bars (we had the privilege of visiting one with a group that we befriended), a grocery store, and boutiques. I would highly recommend L'Ermitage Franschhoek Chateau and Villas to anyone looking for a quiet and restful stay!

We stayed in the hotel 🏨 part of the property and not the villas. Very well down. Safe and clean. Rooms are very spacious and equipped with a kitchenette and plenty of room to hang and store clothes.
The only strange thing is the open bathroom concept so the toilet does not have a door.

We stayed here with 40 people for our annual sales kick off conference. Rooms and facilities were perfect. Was easy to arrange from start to finish. Food - breakfasts lunch and dinners were perfect. Lots of choice, plentiful and delicious. The staff were amazing - nothing was too much trouble. The accommodation in the 2 bed villas worked wonderfully, site is well laid out easy walking and getting around with spectacular views. Conference facilities were great too. Easy access to the centre of town and hotel arranged transport for us to go further afield for dinners and team building afternoon. Thanks to all for a hugely successful week
