Nature-inspired experiences at Berg River Dam, including hiking and cycling
I’m not sure why anyone would pay for this ‘hike’. Also, all the photos on the reviews exclude the overwhelming man made eye sores all around this area. It’s not natural, it’s a broad service road with concrete buildings and walls. It should be free, but even then, it will not be crowded, because it’s NOT an example of Franschhoek’s natural beauty. What a waste of a good Saturday. Rather go to Stellenbosch Jonkershoek.

Beautiful views, easy trail, well sign-posted. We did most of SeeSaw route. Entrance is on Roberstvlei Road, not by the dam wall, so it’s indicated incorrectly on AllTrails.
I almost don't want to write a review and promote this too much, as what makes this area and routes special, is the fact that they are not overcrowded like most Cape Town hiking and MTB routes (at the moment). But what a stunning area and routes around the Berg river dam, on a stunning cool winter Sunday morning. Unfortunately, I could not do the 360 around the dam (20km) with the MTB , as it has severe storm damage, so managed to do 90% of the contour jeep track into Wolwekloof (last 800m inaccessible due to two huge dongas). You are pretty much at the origin/top of the water catchment, so expect a lot of water in the area esp. in winter. The views over the dam and of the mountains are spectacular. Great for hiking, dog walking, kayaking and MTB! Quaint little coffeeshop, mobile toilets and kayak/bike rental onsite. I would recommend improved signs at the start of each trail (without over-signaging), as well as elevation maps on the website per route.
