Cape Town gym with swimming pool, sauna, and functional training areas
Virgin Active has accepted so many members, while closing so many clubs for renovation, that it is now no longer possible to complete a workout. The parking is full, the pool is full. The stretch areas are full. EVERYTHING IS FULL BEYOND CAPACITY. It's truly an awful experience - thanks to a greedy corporate attitude. I've been a member for a few years. Rock bottom rating now.
Will update this to 5 stars when more rowing machines are added. Having only one for the whole gym is crazy. Update: there are now 4 rowers. I’m very happy about that I hope that they’re not just here while Wembley is being renovated.
The gym itself is great, with good classes and facilities. However, I really dislike having to pay for parking when other clubs offer free parking regardless of how long you stay. On my last visit I attended a class, enjoyed the sauna, had a shower and bought a smoothie afterwards. Even with the validated ticket and 2 hours of free parking, it wasn't enough to cover my time at the club and I ended up paying an extra R40 for parking. The other issue is the small flying insects in the showers. There always seem to be quite a few sitting on the shower walls, which isn't pleasant. Apart from those two issues, it's a good club.
I had a few bad experiences at this Virgin Active. The worst one was when one of the employees stole my AirPods from my bag at Virgin Active Foreshore. Luckily I was able to track them using the Find My iPhone feature, which showed that they were taken to Virgin Active Silo, where the employee works in the office. When I confronted her, she denied taking them, but it was very obvious they had been taken from my bag and brought to her workplace. What was even more disappointing was how the management handled the situation. The managers from both Foreshore and Silo did not seem concerned about the issue, and the manager at Silo even defended the employee. Afterwards, they sent me an email asking me to complete a survey about the incident. However, when I replied and explained everything, they never responded and the investigation was never continued. Very disappointing experience and poor handling of a serious situation.
Loved this particular gym. Very well kept, gym equipment still relatively in good condition and good and friendly staff. The change rooms are in such high standard that I thought I was in a hotel. Simply beautiful. Now sure what the idea of not having shower doors was about but it somehow works even though it does make you feel awkward at first. Wasn’t a fan of the steam room because it was not hot/steamy enough and the sauna was closed for some reason. Pool is great and so is the grip area. If I was staying in town, I’d definitely go here daily.
